I cant decide between Jester, Moore-Hill, and San Jacinto. Dont care about the money difference, however i think i want a community bathroom (and i know san jac doesnt offer that, but its just because ive never had to clean my own bathroom... no need to make any comments on that), however i have not completely disregarded the idea of a private bathroom. Ill be an incoming freshman from OOS, so i really want somewhere that itll be easy to make friends and meet people (because im a little worried about this. It seems like everyone will already have friends from high school. True? False?). Anyways, any opinions appreciated! Cant make a decision!!

Have you also considered the nearby private dorms? Some of them may offer housekeeping? UT Austin is behind times by not offering once a week bathroom cleaning. Most other universities we visited included that service in the dorm cost.

yes, i actually looked at the castillian; but my parents really want me to stay on campus, which i kind of agree with. So id prefer an on campus dorm.

Whitis is a residential FIG (house for Freshman Interest Groups). I believe it has community bathrooms. Look into that. I think this might meet your concerns : 1. no bathroom cleaning 2. a group to learn and live with.

As a current out-of-state student, I totally know what you mean when you say you want to be someplace where you can make friends. I recommend Jester (not just because I live there), but because it’s actually a really good place to live. The bathrooms aren’t terrible, and they’re cleaned daily – as you already know. There are about 100 people on each floor, so there are plenty of opportunities to meet new people. Also, since over 2000 students live in Jester, there’s a very good chance that any new friends you make will also live in Jester. You’ll also be very close to food (J2, JCL, Wendy’s, etc).

I personally don’t think San Jac is worth the money. Moore-Hill is all right, from what I’ve heard, but I don’t know a whole lot of people who live there. I think Jester is just a better package overall.

San Jacinto probably isn’t worth the money if you aren’t interested in a private bathroom.

This might sound a bit strange, but I think it can actually be a bit difficult to make friends in Jester, if only because it’s too big. It’s easy to get lost in the crowd, especially if you don’t know anyone beforehand.

Whitis might be the best fit for you. I have an acquaintance who lives there, and he seems to love it – apparently the community is pretty tight-knit, and I think the rooms might be a bit nicer than the ones in Jester.

Thanks for the input! Now, does anyone have thoughts on whether it is more beneficial to have a big dorm, like jester, where you could see someone new everyday, or something smaller, like brackenridge, where ive heard people make pretty good friends with eachother because of their close proximity? Because looking at brackenridge, it looks kinda cool, too.

Doesn’t matter where you dorm. You’ll make friends anywhere since it’s a huge school. I hear Jester is more louder/rowdier but fun. If you prefer something smaller, Brackenridge is a good choice…
