Are there rules on how you can hang things on the wall in your dorm? It looked like things were stuck on the walls with blue painters tape when I went to visit. I forgot to ask the best way to hang things.
Any decorating ideas?

just remember this.

holes on the way = fines.

just use tape…

They have those hook things with special adhesive too

become friends with the RA/PC and get the famous “orange tape” that is all over anything that is housing related. By the end of the year, there wasn’t any white areas in my walls at pentland hills, posters, flyers, and other cool stuff all over. its your room for a year, make it badass as you want!

What about a dry erase board, too heavy for tape.

you’ll just have to prop it up against something

I did mention adhesive hooks though, those should work

yea like the 3M ones that come off with the lil pull tab. hit up the 99c store or dollar tree =D

So I has this really cool idea; there’s a tape on amazon used just for dorm decoration, there’s also a bunch of temporary decals that you can put up and the peel right off! I’m not out of middle school yet, but I’m hoping to get better grades until college, so I have a better chance of getting into UCLA. My room theme is Love Birds. \m/
College freshman here (not UC Riverside but still).
Just want to say, definitely decorate your room! I regret not bringing enough decorations and such.
Recommendations: if you want to hang pictures and such, arrange them on a board (posterboard, cardboard, whatever) before you go to school. So, so much easier to hang up 1 large thing than 30 or whatever smaller pictures. It makes for easy take-down, too, and it’ll be easy to reuse for your dorm the following year. Also, this is a good idea just incase you get to school and realize you forgot to bring tape/adhesive/glue/whatever.
If you study at a desk at home/plan to use your desk at school…get a seat cushion if you have a hard desk chair!
Not sure about the dorms at your school, but many college closets I’ve seen are open/don’t have a door. If this is a case, I would recommend getting a tension rod and just a little curtain to make your closet feel more like a closet! I love being able to just pull the curtain shut so all my visitors/friends don’t have to see it every time they come over.
Husband pillows are great for watching Netflix in bed.
Feel free to bring posters, but if possible avoid the typical college student posters lol (world map, Einstein, Marilyn Monroe… though if you want these, to each his own)
I think the coolest things in a dorm room are tapestries. My roommate brought one and it looks awesome. It’s a really cool decoration that can take up a lot of white space on the walls and yet it takes very little effort. Also something that is easily reused.
That is all I can think of right now, but if you have any specific questions about what works/what doesn’t or what you should/shouldn’t bring, feel free to ask!
When I lived in AI, I remember I put push pins in the wall and I didn’t get a fine. However, at the end of the year we fixed them and put that putty stuff in to fill the holes. Bad, I know, but I honestly don’t think they look that closely at your walls. Obviously Command hooks/strips and tape is your best option for less damage/better hold, but if you’re in a pinch, you’re not going to get fined for pinning things in the wall as long as you fix them.
