Dorm Decorations :)

It says we are not allowed to use nails or staples to put things on the walls. Can we use thumbtacks then?

Sorry for the super short question =/ it's not really a discussion type question. oo wait! we can still make it one =P

How are you all and your roomies decorating your dorm rooms? themes? :) My side is like pink/green/blue themed :)

No, you’re not supposed to use things that put holes in the wall.

I think you are supposed to use removable adhesive. Look at the UT housing “what to bring” link.
I have a few related questions. I hope you don’t mind if I hijack your thread instead of starting a new one.
Are bed risers allowed?
Do guys put up curtains or not?
Do people put writeboards up on their dorm doors?
Do you wait until you arrive and take measurements for under the bed/ on the desk storage? I can’t figure out how much space there is going to be for storage containers by looking at the virtual tour page.

(Based on my observations of Andrews)
Bed risers are fine and very useful.
Curtains are rarely seen and not needed.
People generally do put up whiteboards.
DD did wait til she had her bed risers under her bed to measure floor to board height and determine what size storage tub would fit under her bed. (You might be surprised to find you have a lot of upper shelf space in your closet.)

“Do guys put up curtains or not?”

No but please please please keep your blinds closed if you are doing something uh questionable (xD). Especially if you live in Kins (big windows) or around Littlefield or on a lower floor. People CAN see inside.

“(You might be surprised to find you have a lot of upper shelf space in your closet.)”

This is true. I was freaking out freshman year thinking I wouldn’t have any room and there was WAAAAAAAAAY more room/storage than I needed.

in all those vids from the housing thing where you can “take a tour around the room” they had stuff hanging on the walls like posters and such. I guess I can get that sticky dough kind of thing o.o

For the question about storage under the bed, I’m pretty sure most of the beds are adjustable in height (unless they’re pull out) so if you already have plastic storage bins that you’re bringing all your stuff in, then you can adjust the height of the bed to be enough. I’d recommend 2 strong people making the fix as it might be a little difficult.

Posting more questions here,

 1. If you hang something from a room door or closet door, things like a shoe rack, mirror, etc. will the door still close properly and everything?
 2. Do people normally bring area rugs?
 3. Anyone know how high the built in shelves in moore-hill are? I know there’s a mirror above it but i’m 5’ 1" so that might be a little difficult for me to see/use it lol
 4. Two pictures on the housing site show a room with a blue wall and another room with all white walls. Are there any other colors? My mother wants to know this…
 5. Any must-have items that that most students have or wish they brought that aren’t on the list? I know a fan is one of them
 6. Any really-not-needed items that you know of?

Thats all I can think of for now. Thanks.

The beds in Andrews are not adjustable height. They have ordinary wooden legs. Carrothers beds were the same last year (D and a friend are staying this year in the friend’s last year Carrothers room). Her rooms last summer in Jester (orientation) and Kinsolving (second summer session) had the built in pull out beds with the slide out drawers under them. Am I remembering that someone posted that the two sides of Jester have different types of furniture?

It would be good to have a list which dorms have beds that are adjustable in height. Duren and San Jac maybe?

And the air conditioning worked great in my D’s room there. She and her roommate kept the room pretty darn cold - no need for a fan. Housing told us last summer (when I asked) all of the dorms have great airconditioning.
