My son was accepted EA for September, and I’m wondering if a student could describe the pros/cons of housing at BC. He is guaranteed 4 years. Thanks!

Search the term "newton campus" or "housing" on this forum
But here's a good thread to get you going - there has been lots of discussion about Newton vs. Upper. Your son or daughter will figure things out for themselves for upperclassmen options once they are here.

Personally, I've had a great time in my dorm, and the food is quite good with lots of options on campus. The dorms at BC are about the same or better than other colleges I've visited. Also note that during finals it was very quiet, and the quiet hours didn't have to be enforced by the RA. I study in the library anyway.

Pros:
- Solid rooms, generally well built, and no holes on the wall.
- If you don't live in a suite, then you have a very good and friendly house staff who cleans the bathrooms and showers at least once or twice a week.
- Most of the new dorm have wireless internet access.
- Relatively fast internet connection.
- Most of the RAs are very good and dedicated to your comfort (just don't bust out the weed). I had three very chilled RAs.
- Solid selection of channels on the cable TV. BC has four or five movie channels that are dedicated to brand new movies so you don't have to rent movies.

Cons:
- Many older dorms that the freshmen live in do not have central air or AC.
- The walls are bit thin so you can here what your neighbors are doing in. Though this does not prove to be a major problem, but can get annoying once in a while.
- No wireless access for some of the freshman dorm room. It's available in the lounge of the building. They working to install more wireless receivers, so by the time your child attends BC, it might all work.
- Sometime there are RAs who are quite strict on the under-age drinking thing. Major party in dorm is generally not welcomed, except the Mods where there are nothing but a series of parties. Although I have been in some crazy parties in some amazingly small suites.
- Mails are focused in McElroy in upper-campus. It's a pain walking there to get to your mail if you live in lower.
- NEED MORE HAND SOAP!

Thank you for the very helpful info. My son is hoping for upper campus, I'm not sure why, he had already been checking things out. Guess I should have left him to his own devices!
