Dorm Essentials

Yea, so lame ehiunno. I'm gonna rip your AC unit out of your room and stick it in mine. What now?

I'ver never known a heat where two fans haven't worked. If those aren't enough, I'm putting ice cubes down my back.

Also, you know those industrial-duty fans where they also spray mists of water into the airflow while they are blowing? I want one of those! (They use them at some open air food courts in Singapore...)

You're gonna be the kid with the moldy room.

Actually I think they have some form of not-toxic-to-humans sanitiser in their liquid. Maybe some other heat capacitant. And you could probably toss in diluted antibacterial lysol and Febreeze in the mixture too. Economical cooling.

Those mist fans are outside so the water will evaporate in the sun. Why would they be worried about mold. In your case, you would need to figure out some crazy system, lol.

From what I recall, they were also used indoors and in the shade. It's just that the court was more like one roof, one wall, and pillars. But strong ventilation can simulate that yeah? And sanitiser water (the kind they use for dishes at fast food restaurants without washing it off) evaporates really quickly - like in five minutes.

It's not going to be that hot guys. Sure, it will be bad when you get back from class, but it really isn't that hot except for the first two weeks of school. And, at least in NoVa, we've had a REALLY cool summer these past couple of weeks. I don't want to jinx anything, but it shouldn't be that bad. Two, regular fans, will get you by.

And, I love being sprayed with sanitized water! FUN!

Well toss in Febreeze and then the room will smell eternally fresh.

Yeah, but do you want to be smelling eternally fresh? No.

A really good item is an octopus extension cord.

Are there any things that some of you forgot to bring down and regretted?

My morals..

I'm not spraying chemicals in the air to cool me off, a couple of fans should do just fine. Keep the blinds closed to the sun doesn't shine in, and have a fan going to circulate the air.

I know we aren't allowed extension cords, but it there any limit on the length of the power strip?

haha. Two large box fans was far from enough during the first month of school for me last year. It was really bad, it stayed super hot till like october last year... hopefully it won't be as bad this year. Usually its only killer for like the first two-three weeks. Just take a shower and then jump out and stand in front of a box fan. That will cool you off, LOL.

Or just come visit one of us in Brown :p

I'm not going to visit your room, ehiunno, because it's going to be missing an AC unit...;)

Yo, canuck. I think I saw somewhere it's like 6 feet and you can't go around and stick power strips into other power strips. I know what you're thinking.

haha, it doesn't really work like that. Its not personalized AC units, the whole building has a central air system. Good luck ripping it out and putting it in your room, but if you can pull it off then go for it.

I can't wait to see you Brownies walk into your dorm and say "What the **** happened to the thermostat? Someone crudely ripped it out of the wall!" You'll be muttering "damn you jask925".

What about one of those mega industrial-strength 1-horsepower fans ... too bad they cost like $150+.

ehiunno, don't doubt us. I'll bet there'll be enough guys here that wouldn't mind picking up a huge air conditioner :p

galoisien, you can probably use one, but think of where your papers will be flying.
