Dorm guards

I was at a summer program at BU last summer and stayed in Warren Towers. At the entrance to each tower there was a guard 24/7 who prohibited members of the opposite sex from entering the rooms. Was this just for the summer or is that in effect all year?

The guest policy is changing next year. Search this forum for the thread.

As Kinshasa said, the school's announced a new guest policy. It has to be voted into effect but that's believed to be a formality. The policy removes most of the restrictions and adds some other benefits, like the ability of any on-campus BU student to swipe into a dorm for food late at night.

i'm not too sure if i'm understanding the summer policy correctly. do u mean that everyone swipes in at the main entrance, but each individual tower's entrance has another guard just standing there? and that each tower was devoted to one sex?

if that's correct, then that's just the summer policy. BU houses high schoolers during the summer, so they probably want parents satisfied that dorms are single-sex. during the regular academic year, students have a lot more freedom than that. even floors are co-ed, and u can bring anyone u want into your dorm.

the whole guest policy debate has nothing to do with gender. in a nutshell, it's just that if u don't live in a certain dorm building, it's possible but inconvenient to swipe into that building from 8 pm to midnight, and it's impossible to swipe into that building from midnight to 7 am. these only apply if u don't live in that building. for your own building, u can swipe in 24/7.

yea it was that each individual tower had a guard and they really enforced the single-sex rule. but from what you said in your post it doesn't seem too bad.
