Dorm Help?

So I'm looking at housing at Northwestern, and I'm looking for a preferably quieter dorm on the south side of campus. Any suggestions?

Well, these are the South Campus dorms (not counting residential colleges or sororities):

1835 Hinman
Allison
Foster-Walker Complex
North Mid-Quads (yes, north)
South Mid-Quads

Since I assume you’re an undergraduate like myself, Foster-Walker’s not much of an option, since it’s mostly singles reserved for upperclassmen (I think you can still get into the substance free unit as a freshman though).

I visited 1835 and Allison, both of which have the reputation of being party dorms, and I didn’t perceive either of them as particularly noisy (the only real loud and raucous dorm I found was Bobb-McCulloch). Their dining halls were excellent as well. I’m putting both of them on my top 5.

The NMQ and SMQ were very quiet and very clean but my cousin (a third-year at NU who stayed in SMQ as a freshman) said that the bathrooms aren’t great (and commented that it’s the dorm that everyone will apologize to you for being at). He made it out to be not great, but I didn’t think it was that bad. He did say, however, that you will bond with the people on your floor. Like most small dorms, it’s very tight-knit. But be warned if you’re placing NMQ/SMQ on your top 5, the story goes that if it’s anywhere on your top 5 that you will be placed there (since it’s unpopular normally).
