I was wondering if anyone has any pictures of the insides of any of the dorms at Georgetown. I missed the dorm tours at the GAAP weekend because I had to go to the hospital (bad timing to get sick!) and I was really disappointed because that was the most important thing for me to do. I am sort of leaning towards choosing New South because I like the social atmosphere, but is the dorm itself really crappy and disgusting? Any details about the dorms would be great. Anyone with pics can post a link here or PM me. Thanks guys.

I don't think you get to choose dorms. There's pros and cons to every dorm. Darnall's really far away, but all the Darnall people get really close to each other as a result. The one with the bathrooms has bathrooms, obviously, but the drawback to this is that you don't meet people as much since you do lots of socializing just having to walk out of your room and go to the bathroom. Then there's one that has a sink in each room, I think. I forget the perk of the last one.

The last one's Harbin (or something like that), and it's suite-style.

I know that Harbin has clusters (of 8 students I think). So you get really close with the people in your cluster.

Harbin's clusters are comprised of 8 or 9 doubles, with one triple on each floor. There are three clusters on each floor, and each cluster shares a bathroom and showers.

Any specifics on New South?

This really doesn't matter because you can't request what dorm you want but- New South has 4 floors of about 100 people on each. Typical dorm style, with long halls and communal bathrooms. There are sinks in each room which are amazing, they are so helpful. Floors are coed, with the separation at the middle of the hall. New south is the party dorm traditionally and we have a lot of fun. It's right next to leo's which is nice, but kinda far from classrooms.

Found the GAAP packet!

New South: 4 floors, 44-50 rooms per floor, two common bathrooms and shower rooms per floor. Double occupancy, 2 beds, built-in desks, shelving units, chairs, sink, mirrored medicine cabinet

Village C West: Three wings (X and Y wings comprise West), double occupancy, private bath. Most rooms have two students with bunkable beds, two built-in desks with chairs, and two wardrobes; shelf is mounted on wall over one bed.

Harbin Hall: Nine floors, clusters of eight double-occupancy rooms. Each cluster shares has common bathrooms. Each floor has furnished community room with kitchen. Mostly double-occupancy, but one three-person room per floor.

Darnall Hall: Six floors, double occupancy rooms on each. Each floor has two bathrooms and furnished community room with kitchen. Two built-in desks, chairs, shelving units, beds, closets, and window blinds and carpeting.

they have blueprints and descriptions for each freshie dorm.

Seems to me that village C west is the the way to go...can anyone at G'town currently say anything about that?

Thank you so much. I had thought that we get to select a preference for our dorms this year. A girl that was on the student panel I watched said that we could. But if not you know I'm just curious :o). By the way the university hospital is really nice, for any pre-med people who are wondering.

Jscott: it seems to be the consensus around here that Village C sucks. Comparatively tiny rooms, cleaning your own bathroom, and limited socializing (due to the lack of communal bathrooms) are the big disadvantages.

Seriously, you can't choose your dorm, but you can hope for which one you want i guess. People disagree about which is better between Harbin and New South- they're both pretty good. Village C is pretty crappy, but not as crappy as Darnall. Whatever you get you'll deal with though since you don't get to choose, it's not that big of a deal.

does the quickness with which you send in your enrollment form affect the dorm you get?

no, it is 100% out of your control unless you have "special needs." just love what the randomizer gives you, your dorm room is just a place to sleep and store your stuff.

Ya whichever dorm I get put in is going to be the best one anyways.

shut up tool

I just completed JSA Georgetown session 2 and we stayed in Village C West. You get a/c which is pretty nice but the bathrooms are rather small. the lounges are nice. the only problem is that you have to go to Village C East to do your laundry, major drawback. Oh also, the elevators kept getting jammed but I'm sure they'll fix them before you guys get there.

I LOVE JSA! I did JSA at Yale back in '04! It was one of the best things Ive ever done.

I lived in Village C West, and it really depends on your floor whether people think it sucks or is awesome. I moved halfway through the year to a different VCW floor because I had the roommate from hell. My first floor was really close and social, and I loved it. However, the floor I moved to was really antisocial, by the end of the year I didn't even know what half my floor (or my RA) looked like. I absolutely loved having the private bathroom though, and that made up for the tiny rooms.
