So my dad asked when dorm move-ins started, and I told him end of August but not exactly sure. He asked when I'd know for sure and I said early August (because that's when dorm information comes out, right). He got really ****ed and said how he doesn't operate that way because flights will be really expensive 3 weeks before and he can't just get up and leave. Looking on the housing website, I move in either the 28, 29, or 30 depending on the dorm. Well I won't know my dorm until August. Do I have to do early move-in now because that's a guaranteed date? Thanks.

They will let you move into the dorm before the official move in date. I think there is a $75 per day fee to do that. Another alternative is to sign up for a move in maker where you help other people to move in to the dorm. The move in makers move in early (I think it is the Friday before) and there is no fee to move in early.

get a flight for the 30th. you can always move in on a date that’s later than your assigned date

The housing website says: “Residence hall contracts are available online for those assigned by mid-June.” Sounds like roommate assignments are released in August but dorm assignments are released in June so you’ll be able to figure out your move-in date by the end of June.

Wouldn’t do that. You won’t know it at the time but welcome week is one of the best times of freshman year. You’re gonna want all the days you can get.
