dorm insurance

Is it really necessary?

My homeowners through State Farm said she was included on ours. Laptop breakage rider would be separate.

My homeowner deductible is $5000, and my son does not have $5000 worth of possessions, so my policy is useless for him. I did have a liability policy of some sort added to my homeowner’s in case anyone should hurt themselves in his apartment.

I’ve used NSSI and it’s paid for itself. One can keep after graduation too. The deductible was $25 compared to $500 on State Farm’s deductible to repair iPhone. I highly recommend it.

D used NSSI when her phone was stolen over the summer. There was lots of required paperwork, but they paid almost immediately. Like others, we have a fairly high deductible on our homeowner’s insurance.

used CSI, NSSI’s top competitor.

Went for the $25 deductible plan and had an iPhone replaced that got drowned in a hail storm (moisture soaked thru the sweatshirt). They even replaced a nice jacket which was left in a classroom, but missing when D remembered and went back to look for it after dinner.

Hmm, I look at CSI FAQ, I thought misplaced item won’t be covered?

Have CSI for my D even though she is in an off campus apartment. The coverage for a laptop or phone is worth it. We went with the $50 deductible.

@worryparent - I know nothing of the claim in particular mentioned - but it does not appear misplaced. She knew where it was, when she went to retrieve it, it was gone. Item stolen, not misplaced.
