Dorm Linens

I have purchase XL twin sheets, but I am just wondering if I needed to buy XL twin comforters? I read somewhere that this was not necessary, but I am panicking because we leave tomorrow.

No. You're good. Panic about other things, not that. :)

We just have twin sheets and twin mattress pad...will use regular twin comforter from home... probably a personal choice and dependent on whether your budget includes a new comforter too, or if you're just recycling one from your high school years. Don't sweat the small stuff! Looks-wise, are you really going to make your bed so one that's not as long will be noticeable?? And are you tall, needing it to be longer? And, most importantly, will you care?

I remember son's school even stating reg size comforters are ok (and reg sheets IF meant for the extra thick mattresses)- yes, the twin comforters work. A hint- today, look around the house and think of the stuff and your kid's potential use. Check the laundry, bathroom, cleaning supplies. The Tylenol, Sudafed, bandaids, paper towels (but not the cleaners). Do a run through the house, bed and bath, for those daily use things that couldn't be packed early. Glasses and the extra contact lenses for the nearsighted come to mind... Then, don't worry, they will survive and they do have stores in college towns! BTW, if the home comforter goes to college, what is used for that winter weekend trip home?

No problem with twin comforters!! 6'3" son uses a twin comforter on his XL bed.

But, I understand the panic business; making lists, planning, organizing, and generally obsessing (no offense meant!!!) can be good focus/distraction!

My daughter made up her bed at college with the required twin XL sheets and a standard length comforter. It looked perfectly normal.

If you look at the bed-in-a-bag kits for twin XL that they sell in some stores, you will see that only the sheets are XL. The comforters are standard. I don't even think XL comforters exist.

Last-minute planning can sometimes be helpful. Due to some questionable planning, we stayed in a motel 25 miles from campus when my daughter moved in last week. However, this had the unexpected benefit that we were right near a well-stocked K-mart in the community with the motel in it, and we could use that store to pick up the things we had forgotten, instead of going to the probably-depleted stores in the college town.

If you're an online shopper and looking for a good quality comforter to suit a specific climate I'd recommend The Company Store. (Also a good source for those with allergies.) They also have comforters available with extra length/width. They are pricey but a good investment--last forever. I've gotten some great bargains when they have a "sale."

The extra-long size is only 5" extra so except for the fitted items, regular twin size items will work (i.e. top sheets and comforters).
