Dorm mates for UC Davis

So I just finished filling out the housing form. I’m going to be an incoming freshman in the Fall. Why wasn’t there any survey to match me up with a roommate? Is it completely random? :/

I think it’s random, yah.

I thought there was a facebook group for you to post stuff about yourself and find a roommate? What good is all of that if you can’t even pick your own?

You can request a roommate if you both have the same first preferences. Otherwise, it’s pretty much random.

Do you have to make the $500 deposit before you reserve housing?

@ admissionhopeful: The $500 deposit is the reservation fee. So yeah, you need to submit it, or else you won’t get housing.

@sopranokitty
thanks, but what i mean is, can i send in the deposit by May 1st, but still send in my housing preferences in the meantime, since its first come first serve? or will they not get my preferences until they get the check?

@ admissionhopeful: Oh, I see. Yes, you can send in your housing preference first before sending in your housing deposit. I set my housing preferences in early June before I mailed my housing deposit in July (I’m a transfer student, in case you’re wondering about the late date. Last year, deadline for housing deposit for transfers was July 15 and I think either May or June 15 for freshmen).

I’ve filled out the housing application and hit “submit information” at the bottom of each page but I haven’t sent in the deposit or sent the entire thing in together (I can’t find anywhere to send the entire form, so I assume there isn’t somewhere). Does this mean that all my preferences have been sent and are being reviewed?
Also if you send in a special request on the housing form and send the extra form, are they good about trying to accommodate everyone with the special requests?

I’m not sure how it’ll work for the 2012-2013 year, but I know that this year, freshmen and transfer students with special requests are put in Primero Grove (and for the 2012-2013 year, all transfer students will be put in that area).

And no–you can change your preferences up until the deadline, I believe.

Thank you!
