So I've been accepted! I don't know yet whether I'm going to attend, seeing as I'm still working out financial aid and all, but I'd like some current students to help match me with some housing. Onward!

I'm going to be a biology major, so it would be nice to be close to Tech. However, I plan on getting into neuroscience, meaning I'll certainly be dabbling in the psychology/philosophy side of things, so I'll probably be making the trek to south campus fairly regularly, too.

I'm definitely outgoing. I love to make friends, party, date, and generally act like a crazy fool. But I have my studious side, too, and one thing I definitely value is sleep. Sleep is pretty much the favorite part of the day. If the dorm is too loud to sleep, I will NOT be happy. No no no. I guess what I'm saying is that I need a balance, but I've gotten the impression that balance is a bit hard to obtain in North Campus - you either have your super social party dorms, or your super introverted sciency dorms. Is that true?

Well, I’m not a student yet, but I’ve been doing some research for a while (speaking with students etc) and here’s what scarce info I can provide:

• If you’re a Bio Major, North Campus is a better choice in terms of proximity, you’ll be closer to all of your classes. This isn’t really stopping me from applying to some south campus dorms, however.
• The rumors go that the “party” dorms are something like this: Allison, Bobb, Elder, McCulloch, and 1835 Hinman. The only thing I know for sure is that Bobb-McCulloch (they practically go together) truly earned that reputation. My cousin, who is in his junior year, spent his sophomore year there and hated the level of noise, substances present, etc. He started his description by merely saying that it was a “**** dorm”. From that alone, I’m backing away from it. Elder is an all freshmen dorm, so there will certainly be better chances to make friends that will last a long time. Allison and 1835 Hinman (both South Campus) are also nice but chances are you’d be best suited to Elder. Everyone I’ve talked to who was in Elder loved it.

Thanks you guys! Sorry for not replying sooner, haven’t had any spare time. I’m leaning more and more toward Elder, it sounds like it has what I need.

jwarlick, I called NU admission office with similar questoins last week. I was told the housing choices will be mailed to freshman in the middle of May. so I think one have to accept admission first.

wow ok i am only a sophomore in high school but 1835 Hinman looks like a great dorm. Again i havent visited, so i may have no idea what i’m talking about, but it has A/C, dining hall, c-store, good looking rooms, right next to evanston and grocery stores, not far from classes, and is a balance of fun and studying. If you are going to major in tech, its like .6 miles away from the classes so that may be unconvienient.

Slivka is a VERY nice dorm, but it really is that quiet, studious, and nerdy. People in Slivka don’t make that many friends, but they learn a lot about engineering even if they are not engineers. Shepard is a music dorm. There are practice rooms in the basement, I think. Jones- I’ve never met anyone from Jones in the 2.5 years I’ve been here, so that’s probably not a good sign. Bobb-McCulloch- you won’t get your sleep, but oh, it’s so fun. Elder, Allison, Willard, and 1835 Hinman are all good, safe choices.
