Dorm move in procedure

DS is moving into Ridgecrest East on Aug 17th
does anyone know the rules and procedures for dorm check in?

Thanks

specific check in stuff at [Move-In 2011](http://movein.ua.edu/arrival/policies.cfm)

and lots more related info at [Move-In 2011](http://movein.ua.edu/)

^really, those are two different links :)

Thanks,

Those are very helpful, DS is doing an early move in (ROTC)
so it’s not a ‘normal’ move in day - anything we need to be aware of?

not that I’m aware of, DS moved in early last year for OA, same procedure, much less crowded.

Sounds good,
Back when I moved into a dorm - Neolithic Era,
having your parents help you move in was a mark of shame,
is that still the case, or has it turned into a family affair?

Definitely a family affair, at least for freshman. They have so much STUFF now, it takes a full crew to move them in.

I think 90% of the kids we saw moving in last year had at least one member of their family with them and all three of lil bro’s roommates had at least 3 family members with them.

Times do change,
When I moved into a dorm (1980)
One kid on my floor had parents with him-
he was rode about that for months.
I had a grand total of three pieces of luggage,
which was two more than my roommate.

^^^Definitely no shame in the parents tagging along, that is why there are so many scheduled family activities during the “regular” move-in week. If you are moving in early or on an odd day, you will really need the extra hands. This is also a great time to meet other roommate’s parents if they are moving in at the same time.

Great point, had not thought of that,
I think all 4 boys are moving in on the same day.
