Stupid movies. :p Billy Madison, some Family Guy DVDs, and Tommy Boy are kinda mandatory at a lot of colleges.

Every college kid has to watch Animal House at least once. Airplane! is good for those of us who can quote every line. Monty Python is great. Jack Ryan-style thrillers are good.

Really, it's the dumb comedies you can watch a thousand times over again you'll want. I don't recommend going and buying anything you don't already have, though, simply because you'll almost certainly arrive at your dorm and find that half your floor has the same exact DVDs. It's better to just share around in most cases.

Speaking of which...label them. Stick address labels on the discs and the cases. You'll be loaning them sooner than you realize, and you want to make sure they actually come back.

Phantom of the Opera (2004), Lady Grey (a tearjerker, watch it with your boyfriend!), The Godfather (All 3), Lara Croft 1 &2, Pirates of the Carribean, A Very Long Engagement, Dear Frankie, Dracula 2000, Sound of Music, My Fair Lady (stop laughing, they're excellent), Million Dollar Baby, Sixth Sense, the Village, Unbreakable (so I'm a fan of M. Night Shamalyn, so what?), Star Wars (all 6), and Batman Begins.

Stop laughing. These are all cool movies, and they cover a lot of genres and moods.

Napoleon Dynamite was one of the worst movies ever made. I would get movies that deal directly with college: Higher Learning, Animal House, American Pie 2, Road Trip, Legally Blonde, The Skulls, Revenge of the Nerds, Porky's, and Van Wilder would be a good start.

Most of the ones I have have proven popular, like: Finding Neverland, Billy Elliot, Beauty and the Beast, Legally Blonde, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Sweet Home Alabama, and Peter Pan (the new one). Other popular ones are Little Mermaid and Pirates of the Caribbean, and we've already planned a Cars party for Tuesday.

Disney and chick flicks are generally good...

I second the Disney movies suggestion. My friends have a large collection of Disney DVDs — Aladdin, the Jungle Book, the Lion King, etc., which I exploit regularly. Sometimes you just want to unwind and feel like a little kid again.

Also, Mary Poppins is one of the most awesome movies ever. I've watched it over and over, and it never loses its charm.

Apple Green, so glad you brought up Mary Poppins. It's a movie you can't go wrong with and is in my top five all time movies. Everything about it is amazing--the plot, the acting, the soundtrack, and the EFFECTS.

Get one of the special edition DVDs, watch the "making of Mary Poppins". There weren't any computers, just plain genius in action.

AFPrep850, Cars is sooo good. It's way better than Toy Story. It's my favorite Disney-Pixar movie, even more than The Incredibles. You should definitely go rent/buy it when it's out on Tuesday. It'll mean even more to you if you've ever driven Route 66.

And the Mary Poppins "making of" nearly made me cry, when they were talking about the bird-lady.

Or you can find a buddy who works at a video rental place and gets them for free for as long as he wants them. My friends and I mooch off this guy so much, we keep our flicks for months before he finally remembers he has to return them.
