dorm options?

I know its kinda too early to think about this, but....

For whoever got in or for current NYU students, what is the best dorm option for freshmen?

ED admitted applicants can choose between apartment or halls.

please rank the dorms!

halls: brittany, goddard, hayden, rubin, weinstein
aparments: third avenue north, university hall

is it definitely better to go to a expensive dorm?

Everyone usually tries to go for Hayden, but the best kept secret in NYU freshman housing is Weinstein. I myself am happy to live at Brittany, which has the best and second cheapest rooms (at the expense of no a/c, but seriously, its ok). But Weinstein is probably the best because its right next to everywhere you want to be, and it has 2 dining halls and a coffee shop in it, as well as a learning help center. The dining hall is really important because I am an unfortunante Brittneyitte for whom, with all the awesomeness that is Brittany, must walk several blocks in the cold whenever I'm hungry. Some other residence halls do have dining halls, but none compare to Weinstein. and Plus weinstein has everything else. Oh yeah and weinstein has a stoop, which is an important social area that every other dorm lacks. And they have A/C. The only lame thing is the concrete walls are kinda lame, but it creates a good community atmosphere over there.

Thanks. How about the apartments? Are halls better than apartments?

Im actually looking at Rubin because the low-cost rooms are the cheapest

How come everyone is going for the halls? Is there a particular reason why ppl dont choose the apartments?

yea, its weird.

uhall is def. my first pick

DONT pick weinstein, the rooms on average are about half the size of other dorm rooms, and has cinderblock walls.

People from Weinstein tell me they don't mind the walls, and the people are just more fun there. You may think the dorms are important now, but when you get here you realize that the only important thing about a dorm is its people, location to campus, and location to food.

how do you have fun in there, you cant fit anybody in!

hayden/goddard/uhall/brittany ive seen plenty of 20-30 people parties..weinstein dorms you cant fit more than 8-10.

a stoop is cool, but so many people have bashed weinstein.

why do people like hayden more than goddard? on the tour goddard looked nice and had a good location.

Goddard is only for people who do Explorations. Can anyone who is at NYU explain exactly what "Explorations" entails, time wise, and if a certain kind of student is drawn to it? I want to be in a mix of students from different NYU schools.

exploration is pretty pathetic. I live on an exploration floor in hayden "nyu tv show" and ive yet to do ONE floor event. Granted there are a few events, none of whcih you are required to go to. Basically you get a bigger budget to do things ( usually floor related). You're not required to do anything. Some exlporation floors, such as the music one in goddard seem close-knit, but mine seems actually less friendly than most non-exploration floors.

are the dorms or rooms in Exporations any different? Also, how do you like living in Goddard? It certainly is in a convenient location. If you had to do it over, would you have chosen the same dorm or not?

which dorms are closest to the CAS building? (where do most CAS students have their classes anyways?)

Most CAS classes are in the Silver Center and Weinstein is the closest, I think.

Silver Center is where most CAS classes are (Silver Center also includes the Waverly and Brown buildings for those with science labs and some types of recitations). Math majors like me mostly have their classes in the Courant building, and physics classes are in Myers Hall.

Goddard and Weinstein are the closest to where most of the classes are. Hayden is just across Washington Square, so it's not too far either. Brittany, University, Third North, and Rubin are all about 10 minutes away from class.

I see. U Hall so far is my first choice then since its not too far from classes too. Does anyone know the room orientations? (like how many rooms, bathroom, kitchen etc.?)

Do we have a good chance of getting our first choice dorms? U Hall as well.

which buildings/halls are closest to the Stern Building....?

Goddard is the closest of the freshman dorms to Tisch Hall (stern building)
