<p>do you really want someone that similar to you? i think its better to go random because if you get someone different, you can get a different cultural experience out of it. and i heard that some roomies get along best because they’re different, not the same. :)</p>

I agree. I don’t understand why you would want to pre pick your dorm mate.
College is supposed to be about exposing you to things/people you’ve never experienced before. I think it would be kind of fun to be roomed with someone who’s your polar opposite.
I guess in my case that would be someone who was hardcore into religion. =)</p>
<p>Yeah, I honestly don’t know anyone who pre-picked a roommate at SB ever… I see some posts on the other UC boards like Irvine and SD about picking roommates but that really isn’t done here… Even all the people I knew that came from the same high schools got random roommates to meet new friends. Also, many people who think they’ll act one way when they get to college may act totally different. And most everyone I know agrees that those roommate surveys are totally random and useless. </p>
<p>I would just get a random roommate. If you really don’t like your living situation you can request a transfer after two weeks.</p>
