Hi, I am trying to decided which type of dorm to stay in:

Balcony is $1,750 a semester, suite style (share a bathroom with the room next to you), and opens up to the outside. Dimensions: 11" by 14"
Residence Hall Living - FHKC Complex

Modular is $2,500 a semester, private bathroom, opens to a hallway. Dimensions: 12" by 17"
Residence Hall Living - Hobby Hall

If anyone has experience with these type of dorms feel free to share, I am just having trouble deciding if the more expensive dorm is worth it. Since it is better quality and what not.

Thanks!

Modular dorms are huge in comparison to all the other dorms (almost twice as large). You have room to fit a couch in and still have a lot of space. Having a private bathroom is a plus to, since you would have to share it with only your roommate as to three other people if you got a suite. Both of those halls are on north side with FHK a little further from everything else. Not really much of a difference besides the room size and bathroom.

So do you think it is worth the extra money for the space and private bathroom?

At this late date I wonder if you will really have any choice? Kids have been putting in deposits since at least last October, so I think by now you’ll just have to take what they give you. At least you won’t have to worry over the decision :-).

Btw, my son and several friends chose FHK as their top choice. I thought modular would be better, but if you are lucky enough to get a single in FHK then maybe that makes the older buildings more worthwhile.

Good luck!

Some people on facebook are saying that they can’t get a dorm.

The extra money would be worth it for me since money isn’t really that of an issue. Don’t think it would be worth the extra $750/semester you were really tight with your budget.

And AllThisIsNewToMe is right. At this point, if you are still applying for a dorm, there will definitely not be any spaces for regular dorms. You will get put in supplemental housing until they can get you a permanent space.

jrt336 is right. They shut down the housing applications. They’re completely full.

yikes… so my son’t friends on the waitlist were really smart to get spots at Tradition. That location works for Blinn or A&M. Look at that option SirMarksALot… after everything it wasn’t THAT much more expensive…and super-nice place.

Well currently I am signed up for Modular, I think I’ll just stick with it. I can always pay money back later, haha.
