I know about Rice's residential college system but I still have a question. Are incoming freshman allowed to request a certain roommate?

As of two years ago the answer was, yes, as long as both roommates request each other. You can’t choose which college you will be in, though. I don’t know if it has changed since then, though…

Thank you for your response, I appreciate it : )

Yes. As far as I know, it is also possible to request to be placed in the same college as another new student, but not as roommates.

What Dorian said is true, I have friends who went to high school together and requested to be in the same college but knew that they could not room together.

There’s no way me and my friend would be able to be roommates?

See above. OR you can request to be in the same college but NOT be roommates.

I have two friends who are from the same HS who are roommates. Rooming arrangements are done by o-week coordinators, who are usually juniors or seniors who are pretty sympathetic to such requests. Don’t worry about it.
