Dorm Question.

Hi, I got accepted for the spring term ( I'll be a freshman ) and I was simply wondering when the dorms are open? I am moving there from the south so I'd like to get there as soon as possible as there are certain things I'd need to BUY there that are not sold here ( clothing for winter to be exact ). Do Freshmen have an option to select which dorm building them go to or are they assigned a specific one? Thank you.

For the spring semester, you can move in on January 10 (unless you were on co-op, in which case you could move in on January 1st). You can’t choose specifically where you want to live, although there may be some way for you to submit your preferences. If you check out NU’s ResLife website, there’s more info on housing.

Check out LL Bean for winter clothes. A jacket with removable fleeces would give you a lot of flexibility.

Nope, freshmen usually do not get to select their own housing unless you request an LLC (living learning community) or are in honors, in which case you will be considered for those certain buildings. For example, if you wanted to live in the multicultural LLC, it would be in International Village (I believe it moved from 153 Hemenway to there). If you’re in honors, you would live in West F but you don’t really get a choice to be in honors or not, you’re just accepted.

If you come up during January buy A LOT of warm clothes. It is very cold.

Actually moonwave, honors freshmen are not housed in West Village F. They are kept in doubles in International Village North.

I’m going to White Hall ( got an email a few days ago ). Now that we are on the subject, how hard is it to get into Honors? How exclusive is it exactly? I’m majoring in Political Science.

If you didn’t get accepted as a freshman, you can apply later on until the end of your second year, but you need a 3.6? gpa. I’m not sure what it is, but it is higher than the actual gpa requirement to stay in honors (3.4) because they want you to prove that you don’t just have a 3.4 out of a fluke, and that you’ll actually stay in.

If you never get in/apply to be in honors, but you have a good gpa your junior year, you can apply then to do the honors junior/senior research. You wouldn’t graduate with honors coursework, but you’d graduate with the research which is really cool.

The research is not a requirement, even if you are already an honors student.

When I entered NU, honors freshmen were in WVF. Guess they moved them.

yep, WVF is now upperclassman only.

Stay in White it’s the best!!!

Stetson East, in my opinion, is the best because it’s over one of the best dining halls and the rooms are pretty decent. Any of the dorms on Hemenway are too old for my taste and IV’s food is awful and it’s far from main campus.

I’m moving into IV next week and was wondering why the food is awful haha

I live in IV, and I wouldn’t say that the food’s awful. I’ve certainly tired of it, but my friend from BC visited and described it as “gourmet.” It’s all up to your personal tastes.

Hemenway too old! No way. Alright, so there are some mice in the buildings and an occasional rat running through the street… but good parties, awesome location, sometimes views of fenway. And no cockroaches! Those stick to St. Stephens st. Loved my 2 1/2 years on Hemenway.

IV food is decent, but I usually go to East… I have a meal plan exclusively for those cranberry white chocolate chip cookies. Plus I like to steal cereal.

Those cookies are seriously crazy good.
