So my priority number is mid 2,000. I know this number isn’t great, but it could be worse! I know I want to live in a more centrally located dorm, a newer one if possible, and a suite style one. I would like Deviney or Dorman…but I’m not sure how realistic this is with my housing number? What other dorms do you think would work for what I am hoping for? Also I have no visitation preferences or preference about the dorms being co-ed or all female. Thanks for your input!
The new Dorman/Deviney buildings are going to be hugely popular, so it’s probably not going to happen. However, Wildwood is still under 10 years old (opened in 2007) and is located only a couple minutes from Dorman/Deviney. While it’s not as centrally located, the odds of getting Wildwood would be much higher since it’s no longer one of the go-to dorms.
I would also look into some of the east-side dorms. Unfortunately those require meal plans (I’m not sure if you were looking to get one or not- I honestly do not recommend them), unlike Dorman/Deviney/Wildwood.
How much are you paying for the dorm?
@batman24, all of FSU Housing’s rental rates can be found on their website: http://www.housing.fsu.edu/current-residents/finances/rental-rates
All freshman housing that is suite-style (except Salley) is charged at the same rate, which is $3240/semester for the upcoming year for a standard room. Smith will be $2550/semester, and Salley will be $2995/semester for a standard room.
This might seem like a stupid question but whatever… Smith for example is 2550 per semester. And there is three semesters(fall, spring, summer). Year round would be that amount times three?
And do most students stay in their dorms year round?
@batman24 You have the same dorm for the fall and spring semesters and then if you are going for summer, you get a different dorm that’s dependent on the summer housing priority number you get.
As far as the price goes: http://www.housing.fsu.edu/future-residents/finances/rental-rates
Yep, you get the same dorm assignment for fall/spring, but summer is an entirely different application (not all buildings are available for summer (due to a much lower number of students living on campus).
The price for housing during the summer is also pro-rated, as the summer semester is only 12 weeks instead of 15-16 weeks for fall/spring.
For your example, you can’t live in Smith year-round, as it isn’t typically available for the summer. So you could live in Smith Hall for fall/spring, but would have to move to a different building for summer, if you wanted to live on campus during the summer.
So do most students that come to live on campus leave during the summer and come back for fall/spring.?
You would indeed be paying per semester. However, you would not be in the same dorm for summer that you were in for fall/spring. You have to move out for summer most of the time (I think there are some exceptions). Some dorms are open for summer, but some are not. You also must leave the dorms for spring and christmas break.
