Generally when will dorm assignments be sent out to incoming freshmen? Will the assignment include her mailing address? (I have boxes to ship...) How far in advance will the mail room accept packages for incoming freshmen?

Is there a dorm fridge rental program at UR? I've looked al over the ResLife website (as well as few other places) and haven't found any information.
Although we own a dorm-sized fridge (courtesy of D's older sister) shipping it 1800 miles just isn't practical.

I think I got my roommate assignment around the tenth of July, and that it included information about shipping boxes to the school early.

You can also rent a microwave/fridge combo for $200. Depending on where your daughter's roommate lives it might be cheaper to have her buy a fridge/microwave and then pay her back.. (My roommate was from Chicago, while I was from upstate NY. I was driving to school, so we decided it was cheaper for me to buy a fridge and microwave from Target. When I got to school my roommate payed me back for the fridge. At the end of the year she kept the fridge and I kept the microwave. The total cost of buying both was around $130)

I would agree with the microfridge thing. I rented mine this past year, but I thought it was a mistake. It is probably cheaper to just buy your own up there, and plus, it isn't as dirty.

We'll probably just buy then. I'll have a rental car since we're flying into Buffalo. (Southwest airlines. Yeah! $300 less for the tickets plus they allow 2 checked bags per passenger.)

once you know where the kid is living you can just ship it to their dorm.
a ton of my friends used fedex to ship in all of their belongings. big boxes :)

Big boxes already planned. Bedding i already packed. Just waiting for her dorm assignment so we have a mailing address. I've actually already done this before. Older D went to college in California and we shipped everything. Both ways
