So, now they we've been here for a bit (or maybe haven't? i dunno), where do you guys think you're gonna wanna move to? Lottery's open until Tuesday!

I'm not even arriving until tomorrow... this waiting is killing me!

ahhh... i still cant decide. i love ec so much, but i feel like i can connect better with the west campus ppl.

If I change from MacGregor to a double-room dorm, can I choose to change a roomate later?

If you change to a dorm with doubles, you'll need to either pick a roommate before in-house rush or else be assigned one.

any idea which dorms are the hardest to move into?

That will depend on how many people want to move out of each dorm in the lottery -- the "hardest" isn't the same every year.

Macgregor all the way! (If I get in.)

What would be an average popularity ranking for the dorms? Is Macgregor hard to get in through the re-adjustment lottery? How does it compare to Baker, Burton-Conner, EC, and New House?

This is all the information I have.

Seriously, the lottery depends on
1. The number of people who want to move out of a place
2. The number of people who want to move into a place

It's not possible to predict in advance unless you already know the preferences of everyone in the class. But you get your assignment what, Wednesday? Seriously, just enter your honest preferences and wait a few hours.

Thanks Mollie. I'll try to fill out the lottery honestly.

I only have two concerns about Macgregor, and maybe you might be able to comment on their validity. Firstly, it's very far from campus. During the winter, it must be difficult to get to campus and back. Is this the case? Do you have any solutions or recommendations? Secondly, when I went there it seemed pretty empty and quiet. People have told me that it's a very anti-social dorm. Is this true? Which entries are most least (and most) anti-social.

Lastly, is it D-entry that is building-oriented? I can't really tell because most non-frosh aren't yet on campus.

@zking786: they are exactly my concerns too. Btw, which entry and room are you staying at?

I'm actually in EC 3W, but I think I prefer Macgregor, followed by New House (if I can get a single).

Well, the Tech Shuttle helps on winter days -- you can track it online and not go outside until just before it's time for it to arrive. ;) It does get cold, but it's not a terrible walk most of the time. (I mean, pity my fiance -- we live in Westgate now, which is a good 0.2 mi further west than MacGregor!)

The stereotypes that people say about various dorms are just that -- stereotypes. When people give a one-adjective description of an entire dorm's culture, you really have to realize that a) that's unfair, and b) they probably don't really know what they're talking about.

I did not find MacGregor to be antisocial, but I did live in two entries that are usually considered pretty social (A and D). In a social entry, you'll usually either find people with their doors open sitting in the hallway chatting, or in the main lounge watching TV and chatting. I lived in the two-man suite in D last year (which is right next to the lounge), and I can say that the lounge isn't empty each night until 2 or 3 AM. I agree that it's a little hard to judge right now, since most upperclassmen aren't back.

The social entries are generally considered to be A, D, and G. I'm not really familiar with the social schema of other entries, since I really hung out with people from A and D and to a lesser extent G; I don't really know that many people from entries other than those. If you choose MacGregor, you'll go through each entry and meet the people during in-house rush* -- most people are happy in the entry they get in the in-house lottery.

*And you can meet me, because Adam and I are helping out with D-Entry's rush

relatively speaking, macgregor and maybe new house are probably the most lonely dorms; but depending on the circumstances, you might find outgoing people
my understanding is that at macgregor you'll find people chatting, but not yelling and screaming so much or barging into random peoples' rooms to cause a ruckuss, which is my pastime of choice

relatively speaking, macgregor and maybe new house are probably the most lonely dorms; but depending on the circumstances, you'll find groups of people that are willing to socialize
my understanding is that at macgregor you'll find people chatting, but not yelling and screaming so much or barging into random peoples' (open) rooms to cause a ruckuss, which is my pastime of choice - at baker, chatting is the least social thing that you might find someone doing at a particular time.. it just depends on your taste
i wanted to be as un-lonely as possible, and i even get lonely here sometimes, so..

according to the Monday's Tech newspaper, in the order of most popular to least, it was Baker, MacGregor, Burton-Conner, Simmons (only top 4 were listed) for the lottery held during the summer.

I'm in Random, and I'm staying here! Woot!

So which is the most hands-on, building oriented of the entries at Macgregor?

BTW, sorry for changing the direction of this thread.

lol. ^
