so i've finally decided that i'm going to UofI next year. [sigh of relief] any dorm recomendations for a female/liberal arts majoring/fairly athletic / socially and academically involved/but non-partying freshman? Actually what i should ask is.. any idea of what dorms are still left this late in the game? Also, what is a good meal plan to chose?

hmmm you probably only have FAR/PAR left. ISR is actually kind of hard to get in to...sort of.. and you're definitely too late for six-pack so there you go. Or you could do private housing.

alright, which is nicer between Par and Far? Also.. i know the six pack is hard to get into, but what about Snyder (the substance free area)? Is that as popular and hard to get into?

FAR is somewhat nicer than PAR and has air. Snyder usually does get more applicants than it can take (the believe is that there are a lot of parents who insist on their child's applying to Snyder). You have various options for meals. Many take the 10 or 12 meal with points or the 14 classic. It is simply a matter of how many meals do you believe you will actually eat in the cafeteria. The 20 classic is usually not worth the money because majority find they don't eat more than 2 meals a day at the cafeteria (you can't get up for breafast, or don't come back at lunch).

Leah0606,
so you've decided to go the UIUC over instate schools..?
I'm instate too and right now am trying to decide b/n UIUC, JMU, and Mary Washington (UMW). My parents want instate, but I don't know... :P lol
What was your deciding factor? Did you get much aid? I only got like 1 or 2K :X..

Oh and are you visiting UIUC by any chance? My spring break just started and I want to visit, but it's so complicated. Flying from here to Chicago is like $215 (cheapest w/ stops) and then you have to find a shuttle bus to drive you 3.5 hours (!!) to UIUC campus for another ($80 or so roundtrip). Or are you going to visit with your family..? (Driving would take days). sigh,...

FAR is pretty nice and quiet, but we definatly know how to do it big up there. My floor was quiet as hell most the time.

I got peoples livin in PAR, and from what I've seen its rowdy. People up at all hours causin mayhem playin beer pong and stuff of that sort.

FAR is a much nicer facility than PAR as well, especially the cafetarias, but they both are pretty crappy as far as room space and food goes. Just make the most of it and meet as much peeps as possible (bout 1400 people livin in FAR alone) and you'll enjoy it.
