Do the quads and other multiple roommate setups have private bathrooms?

Most six-or-more suites do, but it really depends on the college a lot of the time. In Wilson, there's a plethora of private bathrooms (some even in quads). Forbes has a lot of private bathrooms as well, sometimes even in doubles and triples. Major downside: you have to clean them. I hate that. grumble

Cleaning the bathrooms is not that bad. And if you do it regularly (unlike some people :p), you'll have a bathroom which is appreciably cleaner than the public ones.

I don't really know much about housing at Princeton... how many people are roommates, usually? What are the rooms like? Does housing vary a lot between the different residential colleges?

Hmm... supposedly lots of singles and doubles in Butler, quads in Mathey, and ginormous suites in Wilson. There's a thread on it in the 09 forum...

When oh when do we get more Princeton mail??

Yeah, really.....ED people, were we supposed to send in a deposit and no one told me? I havent gotten anything since that packet with the catalog and all that...

I didn't think so...? I just sent in the little white card with my signature.

Princeton doesn't require a deposit. At least, my card said that a deposit wasn't necessary.

Yeah, I didnt think so. I think I'm just still paranoid that the acceptance letter was some bizarre mix-up...

haha whenever I get mail from Princeton I become apprehensive... like they're gonna tell me that due to some stipulation, I won't be able to matriculate.

haha same here.

i did a return receipt request and photo copied my Princeton acceptance card.

oh but back to the original topic, what if we don't want to live in a single? I know it sounds dumb, but personally, I want to have roommates freshman year... is there any way to request not to live in a single?

I feel the same way. I sure hope so!

Hey guys, these are just the questions you should be asking the Princeton students and faculty at the April Hosting later this month! I have questions that I would like them to answer.

So who else is going? And if you finally decide that Princeton is for you, then will you be attending one of the Summer Programs (Community Service or Outdoor Action)?

I'm definitely going to April Hosting. If I end up choosing Pton, I think I would like to be a part of Outdoor Action!

If you have AIM, feel free to IM me (Smariomaster). I'd really like to get to know some of my fellow class of '10 peers! Alright, later ;)

-Jon

I have soooo many questions yet I can't go... I'm got in ED and even if I found somewhere to stay I have a piano solo festival that Saturday...

But I'm definitely doing a summer program (95% sure it'll be OA)

Oh that stinks! But the possibility of you going to OA is cool! OA sounds a lot more interesting than the community service one. Honestly, I love to do community service, but on a social level, I think the OA is probably the best option (to get to meet fellow Princetonians). Good luck at your piano solo!

Hey guys..I'm a princeton '09er and I thought I'd answer your questions. Forbes is almost entirely doubles, with some singles and triples, but those are rare. Forbes is divided into Main Inn, New Wing, and the Annex/Addition. The Main Inn & New Wing all have their own private bathrooms, the Annex/Addition have communal ones. In Rocky, the majority of rooms are quads/suites, and the majority of them have communal bathrooms (in un-renovated dorms, the bathrooms may be in the basement). Same with Mathey. Butler has a lot of singles and doubles, with communal bathrooms. The only private bathroom I've heard of in Butler is a 6-person suite, where the door from the hallway leads to another hallway with 6 singles branching off of it (so no common room or anything). Wilson is a real hodge-podge: for example, for April Hosting I stayed in a 8-girl suite in Wilson with a common room, 4 doubles, and their private bathroom. But one of my good friends this year is a freshman in Gauss Hall (also in Wilson) with a single and a communal bathroom.

In terms of getting what you ask for, about 50% and 50% don't. When you return your housing sheet with all the answers to how many rooommates you want, how late you sleep, etc., the first thing they do is randomly divide the freshman class into 5 groups, and then randomly assign each group to a college. So, let's say you put down that you wanted a 6 or 7 person suite, and you randomly get assigned to Forbes (which only has singles and doubles, some triples), you won't get what you asked for b/c it's impossible. But once you're already placed in a college, the administrators of that college sit down and try to figure out the best placement for you, so if your desired room configuration is actually available in your college, that's the point in the process where they'll try to give it to you.

If you guys have any more questions, I'll try to answer them when I don't have too much work. Congrats again!

Hey, voovi16, thanks a lot! That's very helpful!

I was recently at a reception for admitted students in NY, and one of the alumni told us he wrote "Forbes or bust" on his housing sheet. He was subsequently placed there. It may have been by chance......

So, in your experience w/ studying and taking classes at Princeton, is it advantageous to have a single or double suite, or is having multiple roommates alright? I'm just wondering if it would be difficult somehow for me to study if I had several roommates. The thought of having a few roommates does sound cool though. Let me know what you think, and thanks for your time and advice!

-Jon ;)

This isn't about bathrooms, but still dorm-related -- do the rooms come with closets or wardrobes or some way we can store clothes that should be hung up rather than squished away in a suitcase?

Yes I think all the rooms have both closets and dressers where you can keep your clothes. In case you run out of storage space you can buy plastic storage boxes and stow them away under your bed.

freshmen: DO OA!!! even if you don't feel like you're "outdoorsy." you get to know other freshmen before orientation, your leaders can answer questions about Princeton, and it's just a ton of fun overall!
