Dorm Room Floor

I’m filling out my housing application. My first choice is a dorm with 14 floors. I’m being asked if I prefer lower 1-7 or upper floors 8-14. Am I better off being on the lower or upper floors?

How reliable are the elevators? Otherwise, it’s personal preference, absent any security concerns.

Not sure how reliable the elevators are. The lower floors make use of the stairway easier in case the elevator is out of service.

That’s where I was leading. If the elevators are out of service, notoriously slow, or constantly crowded, the stairs are a better option. And walking 14 floors sucks.

Great points. I’m going to request the lower floors. Thanks for your input!

If your college is in NYC, higher floors will be quieter. Street noise in NYC is loud.

When my daughter was dorming in NYC, her top-floor room facing campus was definitely quieter than those on the lower floors. The disadvantage was that the one elevator was often occupied, so she did use the stairs a lot.

Now my daughter is weirded out whenever she’s home, because it’s so eerily quiet at night in the 'burbs.
