Dorm Room: Ironing?

Hey I was just wondering if it was worth it/suggested to buy an ironing board and iron for the room, or do laundry rooms usually have some? Do they even allow it?

dont buy, one waste of money

^how would you know, you are a high school freshman, aren’t you?

to the OP: i would contact the school and ask what people usually do for ironing. they will know the rules/guidelines for having an iron or where you can use one.

[NYU > Department of Housing](http://www.nyu.edu/housing/policies/moving-whattobring.html)

it’s not listed under prohibited items.

Definitely buy an iron. They won’t stop you. Ironing boards are optional–I used a towl on my desk since it was hardly ever cluttered. Also several girls on my floor had ironing boards who I was close with and they were nice about letting me borrow theirs when I needed to. But it’s up to you.

Well I personally need an iron because I have a bad habit of not folding my lothes before i put them in my drawer and then I need to iron it before I wear it. Stupid I know but it’s a bad habit. xD

So yeah, I guess it’s really about what you need. I already iron a lot at home so I now I’ll use mine, but if you’ve never ironed and don’t think you’ll need to in college then why bother?

I know people bring in irons because my son’s rug in his dorm room has an iron burn right in the middle of it.

yes you may bring it if you need one. =]

If you’re looking for a quick solution to rumpled clothes without the fuss of ironing, try Downey Wrinkle Releaser. It’s a spray solution that freshens and does a great job of smoothing out wrinkles & rumples. It can be hard to find, but Bed Bath & Beyond carries it.

I know…some things really still need a good old-fashioned ironing. Look for a basic iron with auto shut-off (always unplug it when not in use, but at least it’s a good backup in case you walk away for a minute and forget about the iron) and a small portable ironing board that won’t take up valuable storage space.

Sometimes I feel like Heloise. ;-)

Get an iron or hang everything. I did that last year when I had a normal (not midget) sized closet (now I have a midget sized closet that I have to share with my roommate, so I can’t do that anymore…that is until I change rooms). Your dorm rooms are likely going to have very little space, so be careful about what you buy. If there’s something that absolutely needs ironing (i.e. a dress shirt), I think it only costs like $2 (at some places) to get them pressed.
