Dorm Room Locker

I am curious if anyone currently has a storage locker (foot locker) in their dorm room?

As our son will be living in Birnkrant, my interest is most specific to Birnkrant - but I have a feeling that most double-occupant dorm-rooms are about the same size.

Below is a URL link to an image of a Birnkrant room. It does not look like there is any space to fit a small storage locker. Unless, maybe the bed frame is flipped upside down.

In my son's current bedroom at home, we flipped the wood bed frame upside down, so that the mattress sits higher up. This allows him space under his bed, at home, to fit his guitar cases below his bed. I am wondering if the same thing is possible in the dorm rooms? Can the bed frame be turned upside down, and have the mattress higher up, so that a storage locker, or guitar cases, or other storage type container could be placed.

Thanks for any responses or suggestions.

if that doesn't work, you can get bed lifters at Bed Bath and Beyond and other stores. The frame legs sit on top of interlocking devices which allow additional space below.

Oh my gosh, the dorm looks the same as I remember them 30 yrs ago. I don't know if cinder blocks are allowed in your dorms but they work great and you can raise much more than the ones you buy. Of course they are lots heavier to bring in the room.

can you bulild bed frames to fit in the dorms that you could fit a desk under, or is that forbidden?

If you loft your bed to the highest level, there's enough space to slide your guitar case under. I kept my guitar under my bed during the year. I'm not sure about a storage locker, but I recommend that you measure the height of the area under the bed to get an idea of the tallest container you can put under the bed.

I'm pretty sure that "lofters" and cinderblocks are not allowed in most rooms. However, the beds all come with frames that allow you to push the beds up. It you look at the picture from the virtual tour, you can put your bed up as high as the top of wooden thing holding it up. Last year I had to get a step stool to get into and out of my bed without killing my knees, but I got lots of storage space.

Nikara - Thanks, that is the exact type of information that i was looking for. That will provide some extra space for the guitar case (and possibly a foot locker).

Beammeup5 - Do you know if electric guitars (or more precisely, amplifiers) are permitted? The amp that I am referring to is a small Roland Micro Cube. It is primarily intended as a practice amp, for in a bedroom. It has very extensive capabilities (7 models, 6 effects, etc) but it is relatively low output (5" inch/2-watt speaker).

<a href="http://www.roland.com/products/en/Micro-CUBE/index.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.roland.com/products/en/Micro-CUBE/index.html</a></p>

Oh yeah, that's really small amp. Of course you can bring that. My roommate had an old vintage SS amp about the size of a Fender Blues Jr. and another dormmate had a Crate that was a bit bigger than that.

you can bring whatever you want as long as your roommate, hallmates, and RA don't complain about it!

I know some students who lived in Birnkrant last year who bunked their beds, opening up lots of extra floorspace. They added a couch, and it was all fairly comfortable.
