Dorm Room Printer- Yes or No?

It’s a toss-up in my experience. Some want printed work, some classes everything is turned in online, and some don’t have homework at all.

Tallalassie: I don’t think wireless printers are officially allowed, but I’ve not heard of anyone actually getting in trouble for them (it’s not like if the Housing people find one, they are going to confiscate it or anything).

^^ Exactly.
I actually ran started running a wireless router when my computer fell and I couldn’t manually connect the cord anymore. Although I eventually attached a connector to keep my laptop wired, since I didn’t want any signal drops during online quizzes, I also kept my router. I ran it for maybe a year and half at my stay in McCollum and never had a problem.

I printed slides the most, usually they were put up the morning before class began. My personal notes and PDFs were next in line (if I could handle the ink-suckage). Most professors I’ve had prefer digital and hard copies. In my experience they used the digital to mainly check for cheating. I agree with Pasbal that it can really be a toss-up.

Personally, I have had better luck with using the Strozier library printers than I have with using the printer in my room. Even with an 8 am Gordon Rule class, I am still able to print in Strozier at 7:30 in the morning.

However, it’s never a bad idea to have a backup in your room. Like the others that have posted, I suggest an inexpensive black and white laser printer. A $50-$80 printer should do the trick. I have a personal gravitation towards Samsung, but there are many reliable brands on the market.

Can you explain what you mean by that first post better? What stops you from printing in your room at 7:30am?

Many printers are actually pretty quiet- aside from when it starts up for about 2-3 seconds, mine isn’t loud at all. Sure, it could probably be annoying if you’re trying to sleep I guess, but if something like that wakes you up, you’re probably not sleeping a lot anyway.
