My daughter will be a freshman and will be living in Tutwiler.I ama hearing conflicting info on what size the bed is. Is it standard twin or twin X-Long?

Did your daughter receive a letter from housing that listed the names of her roommates, room dimensions, etc.? It should include information about the beds. I checked the website, and there is nothing listed. If the letter does not include bedding information, send a note to housing. You will receive an e-mail.

When in doubt, buy both sizes, keep your receipts, and return the unused one.

However, you should be able to find out the size by calling Housing on Monday.

i bought both sizes, just in case.

when we went to bama bound, we took regular twin sheets and they worked fine. that make me question needing twin xl.

^ Same here. My mom and I both used regular twin sheets during Bama Bound and we had no problems at all making them fit the mattresses in Ridgecrest South, which will be my dorm. Is the XL Twin thing a money-making tactic or are there really mattresses somewhere at Alabama that cannot be fitted with regular twin sheets?

My D chose Tutwiler too. It is my understanding that the beds are regular twin, not xl.

Per the letters sent to students advertising sheets and other dorm items, the buildings that have Twin-XL mattresses are Harris, Lakeside, Ridgecrest, Riverside, Friedman, Ridgecrest South, Bluff, Paty, and Byrd. All other dorms (including Tutwiler) have standard twin mattresses, except for Bryant which has Full(Double)-XL mattresses.

Oftentimes, twin sheets might fit a Twin-XL mattress if the sheets have deep enough packets to fit a taller mattress. For the top sheet, blankets, and comforters it matters less if they are Twin-XL because you can just tuck less of the fabric under the end of the mattress.

as for it being a money making tactic? idk. not sure the difference between twin and twinxl. they both cost the same, so i don’t think it is a money making tactic.

<shrug></shrug>

i figure if we are going to add a eggcrate or memory foam, we will probably need the twinxl.

^^^

Yes. I think if you add the memory foam topper then you need the XL.

The reason that the regular ones fit when there’s no extra foam topper is because the mattresses aren’t the super thick ones like at home. But, once you add the topper, they are.
