I am going to University of Kentucky in the fall of 2015 and I will be majoring in chemical engineering. I was wondering how many engineering dorms there were and if they are good quality. I want to know what I’m walking into so if anyone has any experience with these dorms please feel free to share your feelings on them!
@Jessirose97…Did you request the Engineering LLP when you filled out your Housing application? If you are offered that LLP, you will live in Woodland Glen III which is one of the several new residence halls on campus. All of the new res halls are FANTASTIC…hands-down the nicest student living facilities of any campus we’ve visited over the last 4 years with our 3 kids. Suite style rooms, Full-size XL Tempurpedic mattresses, etc.
The other newer res halls are Central I and II, Haggin Hall, Champions Court I and II, and any of the Woodland Glen buildings. Kirwan and Blanding are older, standard style dorms. I haven’t looked at this coming year’s rates, but last year they were offering single rooms in Kirwan for the same rate as a double because so many students wanted the new dorm buildings.
IIRC they make offers to the LLPs first when housing assignments go out, so that would be your best bet to live with other engineering students and get into a newer res hall. If not, I think the remaining housing assignments are based on how early you submitted your housing application.
A little off topic, but just to let you know, students who are returning to the dorms next year and got their deposit in by the commitment deadline have been given their housing and roommate assignments. New freshman are not a part of those assignments. My daughter decided to return to the dorms due to how close to campus they are, how economical they are, and how spectacular they are.
The prices for 2015-2016 are already announced and posted. This year UK seems a little more timely with this information. Congratulations on choosing UK! You are going to love it.
