Anyone have any creative ideas on maximizing storage space in dorm rooms? Also, any tips for what to bring/what not to bring.
We drove my S 3 hours away to college this past fall. I liked using generic Frakta bags that we purchased online on amazon. They are inexpensive and store easily during the school year. 3M command poster strips to hang/take off posters worked well. We had a full vehicle with family of 4 and his “stuff”. When we got there sis and I set up his room (with his permission) while he and dad went to Target to purchase a tv and other items (snacks/beverages/laundry supplies/paper towel/kleenex) which allows for more room in the car on the drive up. We used garbage bags to put over the bottom of clothes from his closet and tied at top where the hangers were…a couple bundles of those were able to be transferred from car to dorm closet, and take off garbage bags…keep bags for return trip. My s had a double as a single (disability accommodation) but if you have a roommate, consulting with the roommate and making a plan would be helpful. Will you be driving or flying to your college destination?
Bed Bath and Beyond has under bed drawers that can stack, you can fit a lot in them. There are space saving hangers- love those. If you have a loftable bed, you can really fit a lot under it.
I personally hate bunk beds. Making a bed is a pain- I would fight for the bottom bunk!
D18 had a single, so it was a lot easier to plan out her room. She kept a carry on suitcase and had duffel bags that she stored in the suitcase. She also had a stand that fit over her fridge that had several shelves. Think about vertical storage. Dormify and DormCo have some great products/ideas.
