I have already embarked on gathering what I will need for my dorm room. There is a short list of what is necessary on the Housing page and I realize there are many general lists out there, but I wanted to ask the current students to share their advice. What did you bring? what felt unneccessary and what did you forget? And so on.

Oh, and are the decoration rules strictly enforced? I had the opportunity to date a guy from another college and I was amazed at the amount of decorations, especially girls, had going on. Seems hard to even decorate at U.Va. when reading the decoration guidelines. So, yea, what is going on with that?

there's a thread about decorations. it's called... "search."

um i dunno if stepstool is included but the closets have shelves up high (all the way up to the ceiling) so bring that. vacuum... rug... lamp... i dunno what all is on that list. if you like your coffee either you can heat it in your microwave or bring a water heater thing (be careful that you get the non-illegal kind). lots of pillows and a sleeping bag for when ppl visit you/you visit ppl. a mirror.

if youre in old dorms watch out tho cause your room is small and you wont be able to bring that much.
being in brown, well, i can bring a LOT haha.

if you lived here you'd promote it too, because it's pretty much awesome.
besides, it's not like it's not common knowledge that ppl in old dorms bring more than fits usually (every upperclassman and RA here has commented on the humour of watching ppl bring stuff up and then back down the stairs of old dorms on move in day bc it wont fit).
