Dorm Rules...

With that in mind, don’t barge onto single-sex floors. I made the mistake of hearing my friend say Carman 3XX instead of Butler 3XX and so I tried to find her by knocking on some doors on the exclusively female floor of Carman. I received a few evil eyes and death glares for my trouble.

totally up to your RA in all matters beside sex.

on a side note…

did you know that this year there have been 3 write-ups for lounge parties with open containers of alcohol, and previously that had never happened? My floor started that trend this year…

What??? I can personally attest that that is bull.

haha. I think my floor was one of the write-ups. I don’t really know the situation, but I do know that they tend to blame whoever bought the alcohol (or whoever they think bought it).

Anyway, like everybody else has said, everything depends on the R.A. Most are extremely “chill” (that is the adjective that means, “allows people to drink”). I don’t know of any that are strict, and if you have the misfortune to be on a floor with a strict R.A., the floor above or below you is almost guaranteed to have a “chill” one. Just go drink there.

i actually need to know this: Can I have empty bottles of alch.? saying “I got them from upperclass men for decoration etc” i mean it may give me unnecessary attention depending on the ra but is it against the rules to have empty ones? in the dry dorms?

Empty bottles are fine.

drake, my post (from - jesus christ - 2 1/2 years ago) still applies. the ONLY rule here is, don’t put your RA in a position where they HAVE to do something or else look bad/foolish/powerless. Having decorations is one thing. Having decorations and then having 20 people in your dorm room chugging Schlitz while some of the drunker ones proceed to walk out the door and wander the hallways = forcing your RA to do something.

They do inspections occasionally to check for fire hazards or prohibited items (incense, microwaves, toasters, halogen lamps - though halogens are usually ignored). However, there are (legal) limits to the extent that they can tear the place apart to search. Make sure anything you have is well out of sight.
