Dorm Rules?

My girlfriend will be attending UCSB as a freshman in September and will be living in a dorm (not sure which one yet). I will be attending SBCC as a freshman and I am curious about how strict the rules are about boys and girls? Would it be okay for me to occasionally sleep over in her room? Can I even be there at all? Whats the deal with dorms and girls and boys and all that kinda stuff...?

Also, what do you think of SBCC and UCSB relationships? Is that pretty normal? How does that all work out?

Thanks!

I asked that question at Admit day, they said you are allowed to have a boyfriend/girlfriend sleep over as long as they are signed in.

and they have a limited number of days that you can have someone sleep over in your room. however, it’s not like they’re gonna know if you bring someone without signing them in. i once had my sister sleep over in my dorm room for 3 or 4 nights, i didn’t sign her in, and the RA didn’t even know that my sister was there lol.

Honestly, no one ever signs guests in… I lived in the dorm two years and I have no clue what the guest sign in policy even is. The only person you really have to be considered of is a roommate, so I’d have her talk to her roommate about how often you can stay over. No RA (Resident Assitant) is ever going to give you crap about it except for the restricted dorm policies during Halloween.

Nobody will think anything of it; in fact, until you tell them nobody will know. A girl on their floor is hanging out with some guy, they’ll just figure he’s one of the 18K other students at UCSB they haven’t met because he’s not in their classes. But I don’t think they’re that common (UCSB and SBCC relationships) because you meet most people thru your classes and dorms; you make friends in class and in your dorm, meet their friends, meet people at dorm parties, etc. And SBCC students tend not to be in these circles.

What I do have empathy for is your GF’s future roomate(s). Where are they supposed to go overnite while you are playing bunny? They’re paying just as much as your GF for the room, and they’re just as entitled to sleep there undisturbed by X-rated sounds 5 feet away. Most people manage to work out private time with their SO, but it often involves a few free hours and not spending the nite. Also if I was one of the roomates I’d have a rule that while GF is out of the room, so are you; its not your place to hang out while you’re on the UCSB campus if she’s in class.

I’m not talking about sleeping over to have sex, I agree that would be a horrible thing to do to her roomate. I am just saying sleep over, as in just sleeping, like if we went to a party or something and I didn’t want to drive home.

I wont be making it my home or anything…

Are SBCC students accepted at UCSB for the most part?
Are there any other dorm rules like curfew or anything?

Thanks for all the responses!

What are the restricted rules during Halloween? A friend of mine wanted to stay for that.

The exact terms are in your res hall contract, but basically it’s no guests who aren’t UCSB resident hall students whatsoever. They lock all the exterior doors (you can still open them from the inside) to force students to use the main entrance of each dorm building. Front desk RAs may ask to see your UCSB ID and RAs on your floor will kick out any guests who they don’t recognize. The idea is to keep out of towners away from UCSB since they account for most of the arrests during Halloween.

No curfews or anything like that… as for the other part, someone may crack a joke about the intelligence of an SBCC student but that’s pretty minor and it’s not done maliciously. You’ll be fine. Also there’s nothing wrong about having sex, just work it around her roommates schedule.
