Dorm Selection Dates & How Quickly do they fill up?

Hi, I’m just wondering when people submitted their housing deposit for UF dorms, because I’m trying to figure out how early or late mine might’ve been because I’m sort of confused on that.

Also, does anybody know which dorms are usually the first to fill up? I’m starting in summer, so the only options available are Buckman, Cypress, Infinity, Lakeside, Mallory, Springs, Thomas, and Jennings. Which of these will fill up the fastest?

My daughter put in her application and $25 on 11/28 (I think that’s probably a little late)

My daughter submitted her deposit on August 19th. I can’t answer your dorm question though.

Cypress would be the nicest and Jennings has had reports of mold. My daughter paid the $25 in August and was about number 150 in line. They will give you a place in line for room selection with an online appointment. Forget about singles, they don’t exist for Freshman, or even sophomores. Stay away from Broward.

@Bufbills How did you know your number in line?

@UFgogators i thought the same thing and started stressing :/. That is until i saw the time of posting

My daughter signed up 9/23. If she gets accepted to honors college is she automatically in Tolbert? Is she limited because she has FL prepaid? I guess I’ll get more details when she gets her official package.

@kslinky UF honors? She would automatically get Hume Hall (unless you’re talking about one of the LLC’s in Tolbert). It looks like the Prepaid dormitory plan covers the cost of a double room in Hume (which is NICE, since it’s about $900 more a semester than a standard double).

From UF"s website:

Wait how do we know what number we are? I paid in mid September. Will I have a decent choice or no?

@herosaurus17 Mid September is fairly early, you should be fine.

Coming from experience, dorms fill up very fast so make sure you’re on the website when you’re allowed to enter! I did not end up with the dorm I wanted but I settled for Tolbert and loved it!

Out of the ones you mentioned Jennings will definitely fill up the fastest because it (and also Broward) are mainly freshman orientated. Lakeside doesn’t fill up fast because it’s far and practically off campus (in my opinion).

It is funny to hear the different opinions. My son and all his friends wanted Broward. It was redone the year he moved in 2013 and he loved it. Met so many people and thought the location was better than Jennings. We have 3 close friends whose kids all chose Beaty over the last 3 years and all were unhappy. The bedrooms are tiny and they had a very hard time meeting people. So different strokes for different folks I guess

DD14 stayed in Jennings. Really, not much different between Broward and Jennings. They are the most social dorms. The issue (for her) with Beatty was the smallish rooms and, since it’s apartment style, it’s much less social.

EDIT: I do recommend Freshman stay in a “freshman” dorm, as that first year really should be a time for making new friends. You’ll have plenty of time to enjoy apartment living, once you move off campus.

@Gator88NE Any other suggestions for “freshman” dorms?

@Gator88NE Which are the “freshman” dorms? Is it easy enough to find on their website, or do I need to dig deeper?

Thanks.

My son stayed in Trusler in 2014 as a freshman. In the Graham area. Traditional style, community bathroom. Close to Gator Dining, sports, Flavet Field, tennis courts, and Hume garage is across the street. He made good friends there. There may still be a LLC there, to get freshmen engaged in activities, you choose to participate or not.

Go to this website and select “double”, most of the dorms that pop up are available for Freshman.

These would include the following areas, as mostly freshman:

Broward Area
Jennings Area
Tolbert Area
Graham Area
Yulee Area
Hume (Honors)

A current UF student can correct me or perhaps add a few more to this list.

@Gator88NE Thank you!

Do all dorms have A/C?

@herosaurus17 YES! They now all have AC.
