Can anyone please tell me how dorms are chosen for students?
Is it based on who sends in their deposits first get first pick?
Or are the dorms randomly assigned no matter when you send in your deposit?
Also, how are roommates assigned?
Thanks

I have this question too.

I know that the sooner you put in your deposit the less likely you’re going to get stuck in a forced triple (unless you want a triple)

I think for roommates they do a questionnaire, but I’m not sure. (hopefully they do…)

And you have a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice for which dorm hall you want to be in.

And just a heads up, the dorms are split up into two sides, the North and the South. I hear the North is the quiet side, and the South is the crazy party side… haha.

You can look up the reviews on College Prrowler I believe to read the reviews on the dorms

thank you, that was what I was wondering, I figure I might as well send my deposit in now so I have the best shot at getting a nice dorm. I am waitlisted at my top 4 schools so I am thinking I will deposit now for American and if I get into any of those, I will send in a deposit there as well.

I forgot how it worked last year but I’ll try to help out.

The person in your group who had the earliest deposit date will get a lower number for housing lottery to pick a dorm and room. Everyone has to fill out a questionnaire on roommate assignments and you’ll get a list of people to pick from that are anonymous. You can message them and ask to room without even seeing their face or knowing their name. You only get to see your matches with that person and how you two matched up. If you already have a roommate, you two type in each other’s codes (some stupid code they give you) and you guys can match each other up to be roommates. I found my roommate on Facebook and asked through Facebook message if he wanted to room. I highly suggest my method to be honest. Facebook says a lot… lol.

But yeah – send in your deposit early if you know you’re going to AU. They will continue to send you e-mails via your AU email. Keep checking up on that. Don’t worry.
