Dorm Selection

I know its late but I am applying for dorms on GWeb. Availability aside, what dorm would you say is the best overall? (I'm an entering freshman in the Political Science major) I'm looking for housing that is spacious; study lounges and features other than just rooms and beds. Any and all comments appreciated. Thanks

Hey, I can't really give you an experienced perspective or anything, but I'm another entering freshman in the same situation. After seeing most of the dorms at CI, I think I'm going for Thurston. I think Fulbright had quads and kitchens, which was nice, but I hear it's also a quieter dorm.

Potomac was really nice inside, and they even had keypads on all the doors, but the rooms seemed really small. I saw that Potomac had some sort of common area type room at the end of the halls, but there was no furniture so I'm not really sure if that's what it's going to be.

From what I saw at CI, the rooms in Thurston on average were much bigger. I saw a bunch of different rooms, and every one was somehow different, which was kind of weird. Some quads were like two separate rooms with two beds each, while some were split into a double and two singles. Same thing with the 5 and 6 person rooms. But all of them had a lot of space, at least compared to the other dorms. Thurston was kind of falling apart, and the bathrooms were tiny, so if you'd rather have something new, don't go for Thurston. I didn't really see any "study lounges" on the floors, but there were a few lounge-type rooms on the first floor, one with a big TV.

I also saw Somers on the Mt. Vernon campus, and it was really nice and new. The rooms were kind of small compared to Thurston, but not any smaller than a dorm at any other school.

Our representative at CI basically said to forget about getting into Potomac. She said there are 300 some spaces available and 1600 students had applied for those spots. I know the ED 1 and Ed 2 kids get the first shot at those rooms.

If you aren't ED 1 or honors, there's a 95% chance you are def not going to get in Potomac. Honors students are pretty much guaranteed Potomac if they want it. The rest will probably be ED 1. If you find someone who is ED 1 to room with, and you both put eachother as room mates on the housing form, whatever the ED1-er puts on the form as their first pick you will both probably get.
