Oh and don't forget the PSP, PS2, XBOX, blah blah...games!

couch?!

The rooms are like 10 feet by 5 feet lol

ouch 10 by 5 is insane

I just wanted to make a couple comments about a few of the things that I saw on your lists...

You will definitely NOT have room for a desk hutch or bookcase. Anyway, the desks in all the rooms have shelfs (that can be removed and placed on the floor like a bookcase,) so you really don't need to worry about it too much.

Free-standing microwaves are not allowed in the dorms. It's considered a fire hazard. So if you want a microwave in your room you'd have to get a micro-fridge combination. Though, life is bareble with out one. I personally do not have one in my room. Plus, at least from what I've seen, most of the res halls have microwaves in the study lounges that residents can use. Also, another reason I personally would NOT recommend a microwave is because the smell of anything you cook will stay in your room. I don't know about you but, I would rather have the smell to be in the study lounge (which is 10 times larger than a dorm room and has MANY more windows) then in my small, poorly ventilated room... However, I guess 10 air freshners and a giant fan could take care of that problem. (Btw, I strongly recommend a fan as well b/c the dorm rooms do get stuffy...)

I also just thought that I'd mention that all the rooms already have wastebaskets. You don't necessarily need to bring one unless you expect to make a giant mess. However, you might want one to put recycling into so that you won't have to make 50 trips to the recycling bin down the hall every day...

You definitely WANT to have an egg crate mattress and/or a mattress pad unless you like to sleep on a hard mattress. The dorm mattresses are not very comfortable with out them.

You DO want a camera! There will be many memorable moments that you'll want to remember by pictures especially if you're in a res hall. Think about it: lots of first year students that no longer have anyone to tell them what to do, living in relatively close spaces...need I say more?

One last thing that I didn't see on any of the lists is a small vacuum. It's not necessary though b/c the RA on every floor will have a regular vacuum and you can borrow one from the front desk. However, having a small hand held vacuum will save you time and energy from tracking down a vacuum for a small spill. It is managable to not have one though; I don't have one but then again, I rarely eat in my room so I don't usually have the opportunity to spill on my floor.

(NOTE: I live in one of the res halls so obviously, some of these things may not apply to those going into the plazas/suites...)

what kind of printers / laptops people use

Hot Pot, Coffee Maker, kettle

not sure if those are allowed in the dorms either. i think the same "fire hazard" rule that ckings86 mentioned about the free-standing microwaves applies here.

water boilers are not allowed either. same rule. blah i forgot to hide mine when the RA's checked and i got cited for it. haha

An iron is mentioned, but what about an ironing board?
