dorm stuff

"An iron is mentioned, but what about an ironing board?"

there was one provided in the room where they have the laundry machines on my floor.

Thank you! :)

No coffee makers allowed??? Is there a place you can make yourself a quick cup of coffee???

:) I'm not a very nice person when I don't have my coffee!

does the room include a office chair?

yes they do. but i don't think they're very comfy. haha.

bumping this up for its usefulness.

more like wooden chair

do a lot of people bring their own?

Alright going back to a pervious worry of mine, I've decided to get myself a small coffee maker, since frankly, I need my coffee! So since they're not allowed and I know that the rooms are inspected, how hard is going to be for me to have my coffee maker and keep it hidden? Are there places in the room that can't be inspected?

if you look in the microfridge thread, someone said that they only look around you room, they dont dig into your stuff or look into closets or anything-only things that are out in plain sight. so i guess just hide it in your suitcase in your closet when they come and inspect.

I'm not sure about the other dorms, but in Rieber last year our rooms were only inspected once all year long so, as long as you keep your coffee maker out of sight on the day of the inspection and your door closed when you actually use it, you'll be fine.

"do a lot of people bring their own?"

I think I only saw one other person on my floor last year that had brought their own chair. But, that doesn't mean you can't if you want to.

the problem about bringing your own chair is... where are you going to put the wooden one? i think my friend hid his wooden chair into the portable closet (the one under the loft)...

i bought a cushion pad thingy cuz sitting on wooden chair isn't that great haha.

as for room inspections, we had 3 all year (once per quarter), and the RA would tell us during the floor government meeting the week before that inspections were coming up.

we had a water boiler so we just hid that in a closet.

a friend of mine has an individual microwave. she hid it under her bed.

my roommate wants to bring a chair and have the wooden chair participate in a bonfire, with a chipped off piece for a door stopper.

also, are laundry machines free for use or do you need like 8 quarters?

One thing you can do if you're in a double and have the higher wooden beds is stick the wooden chair under there. I got that idea from my summer RA, and right now mine's right there cause I'm using a nicer chair I stole from the lounge (also illegal btw, I gotta put it back before the end of summer ;).

"also, are laundry machines free for use or do you need like 8 quarters?"

laundry machines are not free (though I wish they were!!!) Washers are $1.25 per load and the dryers are $1.00 per load.. All I have to say is I'm glad that I'm close enough to home that I can occasionally send my laundry home if I'm low on quarters. :D Though some of the buildings in De Neve and possibly in Sunset actually have the machines where you can pay by using your Bruin Card.

Wow, those prices aren't too bad.

sounds good. save it for the beat 'SC week bonfire. ;)

Lol... the only problem I see with that, is that housing will expect a wooden chair in your room for your desk when you move out...

haha. replace it with something better so the housing people will be happy.

Anyway..back on topic...where can we get those seat cushions?
