Dorm Style Choice Impressions (Good info brahs)

I wish that UCF would let people in the 4 person dorms choose all of their room mates, has anybody ever heard of a way to get around that?

GRaynor-- Me too. But unfortunately, no you cannot choose. I asked the housing people when I went for a tour.

So all roommates are randomly picked?

This could either end wonderfully…or terribly. We’ll see:D

suite mates are always random. but if you have a mutual request for a room mate, you will be with that person.

I THINK if you’re in an apartment style then you can request up to 3 of your roommates. If you’re talking about the suites, then you can only request the 1.

Apollo were closed at open house. the buildings are only two floors, the rooms are outside entry. once you enter the room, you are in a decently sized open “living” room. then you have your own door for your room, which I think are the biggest. the vanity with the sink and mirror is the largest and in the center. on either side is the closet with a lot of space. the beds are on the sides of the rooms, similar to the pods. the room itself is the largest. there are the two separate rooms, the living space, and then a door to the bathroom.

I think I may end up going with Libra:)
It just seems like the best fit for me, especially the social environment.

"Except, however, you will NEVER catch me wearing pink. Disgusting color. "

LOL!! WRITE, Same here!! I was dressed in pink all the time as a youngster- now I avoid it like the plague!

Problem> Could you elaborate on the atmosphere of each dorm hall? Which was quieter? social? etc.

Towers were definitely the least social. And rightfully so. With a large luxurious room, you’re likely to stay in it. Most social was probably Libra pod style. I’d say Libra L shape and Nike are about tied somewhere in the middle, with the slight edge to Nike.

Anon, I just hate pink. I hated Barbie dolls as a child, too, and my mother would get SO irritated when I wanted to play kickball, instead of jump rope, lol. It’s odd though. Despite the fact that I’ve never got a pedicure, hate straightening and curling my hair, and dying it (I think natural is best) I love heels and dresses as much as the next girl:)

Okay, I’m fairly sure I’m leaning towards Libra. Ah, I’m nervous about this whole roommate situation. What if my roommate can’t deal with how sarcastic I always am? One of you should reguest me!:D

We visited Saturday also-my son is leaning toward Libra. he liked Nike, but he thought Libra might be more social, and was more centrally located. One thing he hated about Libra was the lighting; he said it was dark and creepy looking in the hallways. He did like the pod arrangement though.
We didn’t even look at the Towers-he wants more of a “dorm” feel than apartments for his first year.
Open House was actually pretty great. We skipped the tour and just did our own tour of the campus, and ate lunch at Wackadoos or whatever the sports bar place was called in campus. DS is soooo excited about going there.

Okay, if I’m being honest, the only thing keeping me from deciding on Libra is how beautiful the Nike/Hercules court yard is, and the bathroom set up. However, I love the common room aspect, which adds for a better social enviorment. It’s closer to the classes, and not too far from the gym, so I can get my rock climbing on! The carpet does look, in the videos, as though it’s a little trashed. However, I feel as though that could be fixed up if I brought a larger carpet, which would actually add to a nicer feel. Uhg, darn lighting. However, any dorm will be nicer then the ones here in illinois. The dorms in illinois look like this, no matter the school you go to, and you’ll be spending at LEAST $8,000.

When I went to help my sister move into her dorm, there was caples running along the walls, shattered light bulbs, and bugs EVERYWHERE. Can you blame me for wanting to escape Illinois schooling? lol.

The whole worth while schools here are Northwestern, and University of Chicago (Very hard to get into, and WAY too expensive.)

lol in reality though, herc and nike are only really close to science buildings. Psych and english are pretty far

Hopefully when I visit Hercules/nike are as nice as you guys say.

Alright, I decided on Libra, Pod style. I’m fairly sure that, for summer term, they’re having us stay in Nike/Hercules community. So I might get both of those experiances. Now if the housing application would only open up, I need to distract myself from writing this essay!:)

I stayed in the Towers III Aprt. for the past two nights… here’s my two cents for the one I stayed in, goes with what OP said:

Larger than the average dorm for sure! When you first walk in there’s the “living room” which is furnished with a small square dining area with four chairs, a low long rectangular coffee table, a cushioned chair, a “sofa” for 3, and an end table. There was also a window. If you push the two tables, and chair to the wall, there is enough room to fit two queen(I believe, not certain) airbeds and room on the side to walk (I’m talking about the living room alone). This area is carpeted. Walls are white. If you standing at the door… on the right is a small kitchen equipped with dishwasher, stove/oven, and refrigerator/freezer (no ice maker though). Lots of cabinets and decent counter space. If you move further along there are two sinks (one for each rooming pair- the apt is can fit four with 2 per bathroom) with mirror and cabinets and drawers. Then there is the toilet and shower. in a separate room and two “bedrooms.” At the door again…on your left is a pantry with about 4-5 shelves. Then moving along another set of sinks, bathroom, bedrooms. The bedroom has a full size bed that takes up most of the space. There are drawers and a desk that come with it. There’s a window with a good view of the football field I believe. Also a closet with a curtain rod.

Hope this helps in some sort of way!

My D stayed in Libra (Flagler) last year in the floor dedicated to out of state housing. She loved it. She is off campus now (at the Edge) and there are times she wishes she was back in Flagler. She really liked the community.

She liked the location, the common area and the room size. The cement walls never concerned her. She had enough decorations that covered a lot. She never commented on the hallways. In reality, the hallway is not very long and I never heard her say that people are hanging out in the hallway. The air conditioning system worked great. Finally, who wouldn’t like the weekly cleaning service.
