Does anyone know if Hendrix sends a list of needed dorm supplies? And do the kids need an ethernet cable or does the school supply one? How about the beds? Are they regular size or extra long?

They do send a list of suggested supplies later in the summer, a little before dorm assignments come out, but we found the lists on this site to be the most helpful (my son has found the roll of duct tape to be handy). The beds are regular length and while there is an ethernet wall connection you will need to bring a cable. I ran to Target and got really long ethernet and phone cables so that my son and roommate could arrange the room any way they wanted and snake the cables around the bottom of the walls. They are supplied with beds that easily bunk or loft with no tools, a desk and dresser each. If they loft, they can fit their dresser and desk underneath. In my son's room in Hardin, they each have a fair sized closet with a shelf. My son brought a fridge and his roomie a microwave. Can't say how much they have been used.

After you make your decision, there will be a bit of quiet time as far as mail from Hendrix is concerned. But don't worry, soon there will be a flurry of stuff about paying your bill, signing up for orientation trips, and room assignments, probably mid-July. Letting you know so you can plan, they offer about a day and a half of parent orientation before they run you off. After you help move your kid in, you really only see him/her from afar at convocation and also at a couple of meals. They have info sessions for you the rest of the time. They send info on signing up for a tentative schedule ahead of time on-line so that your s/d can take their time looking over the offerings.

Thanks for all the information...
Just wondering if there are kids who don't have their parents there during move-in...it looks like it's conflicting with the first week of school here and I probably won't be able to make it to Conway. Do they let kids move in early ...like the weekend before??? I was able to do something similar with my D at her school.

I'm sure there must have been students on their own and there are older students there to help. They also have them busy so quickly that there won't be time to notice you aren't there. As for moving in early, try to contact the housing office. Orientation starts several days before classes, so try to find the exact day.

I think the beds use extra long sheets. That's what we sent with our son. Bed sizes are as follows:

Couch Hall - 7' long, 3'6" wide, 14.5" tall
Hardin Hall - 6'10" long, 3'6" wide, 14.5" tall
Martin Hall - 7' long, 3'3" wide, 2' 10" tall

I don't remember what we did about the ethernet cable. My husband did make a few runs to Target and Wal-Mart to get things on move-in day. My son is using our daughter's 4 year year old desk top computer and we did run to Wal-Mart and get a thin LCD monitor because the old monitor took up too much room on his desk. There were tables set up in Hulen Hall (next to the cafeteria) and one of them had someone from IT who was very helpful in helping to set up the computer. They were able to answer questions and gave my son a disc to run in his computer to help protect against viruses.

We sent regular sheets with no problem. You can get some info from the housing section of the web site.

I wish we were as far along in the process as y'all. DD is still making her decision as to where to attend. She's only got a few days left to decide, and it's making me a nervous wreck. I'll be happy when the decision is final.

I am from NJ so my parents couldnt fly out to help me move in. I (unfortunately) live on 3rd floor and had 7 HUGE! heavy boxes to carry up the stairs...well i shouldnt say I carried them...lol they have a bunch of orientation leaders, council memebers, etc. helping students move in all day. They have on these designated shirts so you can spot them and ask them for help easily. you will be fine without parents. if you ship stuff to the post office so that its only waiting in there max 1-2 days, they dont mind at all. overall, moving in was pretty easy. plus i was a freshman rooming with a sophmore (so since she wasnt there), some nice southern hospitality came from some other people's parents..They helped me set up my bunk beds etc. everything worked out great
