Dorm Tech

I want to make my dorm room a really cool, high-tech place next semester. Anyone have any ideas of what I can do/buy to make this happen?

High tech as in gaming systems? Televisions and computers and such? You have to be more specific.

The only way you can do this is to spend a lot on nice speakers, a nice large TV, and get video game consoles. Possibly even a wireless router

The important thing is to find a balance of how much expensive stuff you feel comfortable with having in your room and possibility of theft.

I’m not going to bring my turntable, receiver, and nice speakers to my dorm (not only because they’d take up half of my room) because I would always be worrying about my stuff getting stolen (even in a relatively safe dorm it just takes one person leaving some doors open).

I would probably stick to stuff that isn’t going to be too movable. Maybe a TV (use a headset you can put away instead of nice speakers), a console (but don’t just leave it laying out), and your computer.

I’m thinking of waiting until I get an apartment to bring my turntable and record collection down, but you can probably do something like that without worrying as much about theft.

High-tech is all about perception, so you should aim to make a high percentage of your stuff high-tech. That’s done by having few items, but making sure everything you get is high-tech.

Some ideas include:

 • Really cool speakers
 • Nice alarm clock
 • Carbon-fiber luggage
 • Vacuum sacs
 • Military-style blankets / sheets (or even a sleeping bag)

Whole idea is to keep it simple: a few key items will make the difference between your room looking low/high tech.

lol at wireless router one.
A friend of mine has:
-projector
-nice speakers
-2 gaming consoles
and those are enough to make it techie

Robotic female…you’re gonna need it.

Nothing says high tech like a military bunk bed?

When I was in the military, my sheets were white with a thin green blanket.

Soooooo hi-tech.

I forgot to mention Coffee Pot.

Nothing says Tony Stark like a nice Coffee Pot.

Neon Green Paint
