I know, we've heard it before, but there seem to be more present JH people on now...

really... which dorms are best? By doing the apartment style living do you really lose a big part of the social aspect? Are communial bathrooms really THAT bad? Any thought!?!?

I currently live in the AMR II and i couldnt be happier. It is definately the most social of the dorms, it is in very close proximately to all of your classes, the rooms are large and well furnished. The cons of the amrs are that they do have communial bathrooms that can get disgusting, the rooms do not have ac so it can get hot, and sometimes the heater is loud in the winter. However, i have been to all of the dorms and i definately think i am in the right one, the other dorms (wolman and a&b) might be a little nicer and have their own bathroom but arent even close to as social as the amrs.

I think everyone eventually ends up loving the dorm they live in and will say that they would have it no other way. I'm in Building A right now and it's definitely the best - it combines the best of Wolman (A/C, private bathrooms) and the AMR's (extremely social atmosphere, on the freshman quad). Rooms in AMR II, Building A and Wolman are being shown during the open houses, so if you can, come take a look around. If you can't make it.. I remember reading on the on the official message board that they're going to have more info about housing (including room photos) online soon, so that will be useful in deciding what building you want to request.

There is no real answer to this question - it comes down truly to personal preference. Three choices:

Alumni Memorial Residences I and II (AMRs): AMR I and II are traditional residence hall complexes on the Freshman Quad. They are subdivided into "houses" that function as community groupings.

Buildings A and B: Also on the Freshman Quad, Buildings A and B contain three- and four- person single-sex suites. Each suite has its own bathroom.

Wolman Hall: Located on nearby N. Charles Street, Wolman Hall consists of four-person single-sex suites. Wolman suites feature bathrooms and kitchenettes.

Each is different and has its own personality. If you get the chance to come for an Open House you can actually take our dorm tours and see the three different locations.

Also, see the threads on the JHU Message Boards. And check the student blogs next week -- we will be doing a "Hopkins Cribs" theme where each student describes their rooms with pictures!!!

wolman is the nicest. during my overnight stay my hosts lived in wolman, and they said that you really only get to know the people in your suite, maybe floor depending on the people there. but they chose to live there their second year anyway. the social aspect might improve this year, however, since wolman is all freshman instead of frosh/soph. the rooms are REALLY nice though, so it's really just a personal preference. i'm definitely picking wolman :)
