We just got back from orientation and have a very odd question. My D is going to live in New in the fall so she was pleased to stay there during orientation and scope it out. What puzzled her was that each of the bathrooms she saw had just one sink. It seemed so strange to have more toilets and showers than sinks?! What happens in the morning when the entire hall needs to brush their teeth? Can anyone shed light on this mystery?

Some of the rooms have a sink- you had to request it and pay extra.

Well, yes, I know that, and she did request one but didn't get it. According to the USC Housing website,in New there are 186 doubles without a sink and only 84 doubles with a sink. So most people don't have their own sinks. Again, it just seems odd to have one sink for a hall with many rooms. I kept thinking we'd find another bathroom with a long row of sinks but we never did. It's such a big building that perhaps we just missed it.

At orientation, I was almost always the only girl in the bathroom. It was weird. I did once enter a bathroom at night that just had three girls sharing a sink to brush their teeth. It wasn't a big deal. Its easy to find a bathroom with a free sink if you need it.

the girls' bathroom only had a sink? the guy's bathroom had 3...=

I'm guessing there are way more people around when school is in session than during orientation but I'm not actually worried about this, it just seems odd. My own college dorm had co-ed bathrooms (this was way back in the 70s) with about 6 sinks, 6 toilets and two showers. The bathrooms were very social as you might imagine! Each of my older kids lived in dorms just recently with similar layouts, although not co-ed. Again, it just doesn't seem to make sense for perhaps 20 or more girls to share one sink and I wondered if we'd missed something.

all the new/north girls bathrooms i went in had 3 sinks.

When I lived in New the bathroom in my hall had 3 stalls, 4 showers and 3 or 4 sinks.

Maybe the bathrooms that are located near the rooms with sinks in them have one sink, while the rooms located near the rooms without sinks have more in the bathroom

^ You're probably right. I had a room with a sink it in, and the bathrooms nearby only had one sink.

Aha! That would certainly explain it. Thanks.
