Does Harvard College offer dormitory housing for part-time disabled students? I have heard that somewhere pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (as amended in 2008) in addition to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and applicable case law that this may be true, but does anyone have any specific sources or background information on this?
By Federal and Massachusetts law, all Harvard dorms, lecture halls, dining halls etc must be accessible to disabled students. See: http://aeo.fas.harvard.edu/freshmen.html
That said, Harvard only guarantees housing for FULL-TiME students, regardless of disabilities. If you are planning on attending Harvard part time (defined as taking fewer than 4 classes per semester), you need to find housing on your own. Gibby this is not correct entirely. A student with a disability can get an accommodation of reduced courseload, but I think usually this is 3 classes. If you cannot do 3, then a medical leave is probably in order.
I am not so sure all dorms are accessible either. There are certain dorms where those with disabilities get housed, for instance, Hurlbut.
