Ok, so I don't know if others have this problem, but I assume many do. I am a very outgoing kid who likes to party, drink, blah blah blah. After reading up on NW dorms I feel that I would be best suited for a dorm in the North such as Bobb. However, since I am in at WCAS most of my classes will be in the SOUTH. Basically, it's a toss up between a more social and exciting enviornment or the more practical approach. Is it worth it to live in the North if I will be taking many classes in the South. I have basically narrowed it down to Allison or Bobb...anyone able to give advice on what to do?

I live in Allison and it's great, the location is by far the best on campus and it's a very social dorm without being gross like Bobb. You'll def. want to be on south campus in the winter when there's snow and rain and 15 degree temperatures. I'd go with Allison.

hey lily, what about air conditioning? I read only buildings on north have airconditioning.

but a friend told me south has nice carpet lol

no air conditioning at allison, i think they have it at 1835 hinman, but they only put it on for a few days during the year, i wouldn't make it a deciding factor in where you live. just bring a couple fans.

the carpet ... is brown. and i wouldn't eat off of it. other than that, i suppose it's fine.

About how far is the walk from Allison to the economics building?... how about from Bobb to the economics building? If it is only a ten minute walk from Bobb to the econ building, is it then worth it to live on what is said to be the major party spot in the north?

There isn't much of a difference between walking to the Kellog complex from Bobb or from Allison. I mean, it is a little shorter coming from the south, but it is a very central location right on Sheridan.

People shouldn't be THAT generalizing about the dorms. It's not at all like if you drink you go up north and if you don't you live down south. It's college, everyone parties. I guess it's just slightly more convenient to be right by the frats, but it shouldn't be a breaking factor.

Some of your WCAS classes will definitely be in tech. Some will be down south. Some will be smack dab in the middle. It really won't make a difference where you live. I live in Willard, and I am friends with a great amount of Engineers who, yes, walk to tech every day. They also love Willard and are living here again next year.

how do you people like the all freshman housing like elder?

I live in Elder this year. The facilities suck, but the community feeling is outstanding. It's much easier to connect to fellow freshmen. However, I am a little disappointed that I don't know as many upperclassmen as I'd like, but that'll come in time.

Like dfleish said, STOP being so overgeneralizing about dorms (every year's somewhat different and every person is different), about class location (chances are, you'll probably take classes all over campus), and about student groups (at NU, a lot of people are smart and play hard too)

Speaking of facilities, what do current NU students feel about the facilities and food? The stats about restrooms, dorms, and food menu can only say so much

OK...im 99% sure im going next year and will be taking most classes in PoliSci / US History.

I like parties, drinking blah blah. I'm fine with the frat scene. Not artsy fartsy but can do well in an intellectual crowd.

I'd like a dorm with good facilities:::big rooms, nice bathrooms etc.

Any suggestions - plz help me out; im worried.

hey guys, i'm in weinberg and am planning on double majoring in music and one of the sciences, probably biology (maybe chemistry since it's so good) since i'm planning on going into medicine. i do not drink nor enjoy drunk parties and etc so i was wondering what you guys would recommend?

o, and how is the social scene for those who do not like to drink? I enjoy going out and having fun just not under the influence of alcohol =P.

I also don't drink, and from what I've heard, we can have a fun time too. Intramural sports, performances, and of course, Chicago..

Hey guys, is April Fool's Day April 1st?

Ok so if my two top choices were Allison and Bobb, and I am in at WCAS, is Allison a better fit, just in terms of location and quality of the dorm rooms?

Yeah, from what I've heard, Allison is a better fit than Bobb - better location, etc.

Now could you answer my Q plz?

yeah it's april 1st

SAS: Facilities are great. Some dining halls are better than others (Willard's sucks, I love Allison's); the gyms are a great resource too. Most of the dorm rooms, even small ones, are nice and liveable. There's nothing horrible about any of them.

Senor: you will be happy with any of the major dorms. Elder, Bobb/Mc, Allison, Willard should all be on your list. If they're your top 4, you'll get one of them.

dere: No matter what you will probably encounter drunk people on campus. But there's plenty to do besides partying, especially with Evanston and Chicago so close. But I'd say you'd like something south, like Allison, Chapin, Shepard, Willard, 1835 Hinman, Jones. Lots of interesting people and you won't have to deal with the frats- plus closer to Evanston.

ibrockmad, If you don't care between the two at all, I'd pref Allison because the rooms are a little nicer, but it doesn't make a difference in the least.

which dorms offer triple and quad housing?

hey stacey. www.northwestern.edu/housing has residential college descriptions and pictures of the dorm dimensions as well as the building. They tell you which dorms offer triple housing. I don't think I saw any quad housing...but some like Kemper had suites.

using that site in conjunction with the interactive map helped me a lot.
