dorms and decorations

I was skulking around the housing site and noticed that UVA has classified posters and pictures and bulletin boards as "combustible." Are they actually saying that you can't bring that stuff unless it's under glass?? And does anyone know if bringing Christmas lights are prohibited?

Thanks for your help! I'm so excited to move in!

just hang it up and don’t worry about it, don’t make a big deal about it, sure it’s a fire hazard, but how many fires were there in dorms in the past couple decades…

Thanks for your help! So Christmas lights and such would be fine? :)

as long as the fire marshalls don’t see them, if they’re not in line with housing specification (a few years ago you could have christmas lights assuming some certain specifications were met, but this might have changed - check the housing website).
the fire marshalls let you know when they’re coming, so just take them down before they come

And put them right back up afterwards.

Anyways, the fire marshals only even look at a portion of the rooms, there were only 2 rooms in my suite of 5 checked.

It doesn’t matter. One of my suitemates in first-year dorms this past year had his entire wall covered in posters and flags, and they had christmas lights up too. No big deal.
