Some schools have dorm choices that address these issues. I've seen "healthy option dorms" which usually mean that the residents are committed to eating healthy, living drug /alcohol free, quieter - go to bed earlier, exercise. I've also heard of "quiet dorm" option for those who are more interested in studying and resting in their dorm environment. In addition I've heard of "foreign lanugage" dorms where the residents are supposed to only speak a designated language (like Spanish or French) when inside the dorm. Check with your school to see what is available to you.

Yes, theme housing is an interesting option...

I go to sleep way earlier than my roommate and we deal with eachother. I have eye covers, I have "sleeping" music on my ipod, and we have a fan which muttles the noises. I've learned to sleep with distractions. I wake up earlier and I have no guilt turning the lights on because she wears eye covers as well. Don't worry about it... you'll adjust.

While I totally appreciate your angst. When you get sleep in college the quality of it and the whole aura of it...........you'll just be glad you got sleep. All the rest is inconsequential. Worrying about falling asleep is not an issue. Worrying about falling asleep before hitting the bed is more like it.

You'll adjust. If not, roommates can be talked to...or changed. ;)

hehe well sort of ;)
for me it's not FALLING asleep that's the issue... it's not being woken up obscenely early without due reason...
although next quarter i'll be up early too. hey if you can't beat 'em, join 'em!
