So I've seen a few posts around on CC talking about mice and rats in certain dorms. Once CC poster even claimed to have caught some mice throughout their stay there.

Is this really true? And NYU doesn't do anything about it? Wouldn't this violate some sort of health law? What buildings have this rodent problem?

During my year at Brittany, our room sometimes became a mess and my roommate sometimes left food out...but I never saw a bug or a rodent at all. My friends in Rubin didn't see any either.

I had a friend in Weinstein discover cockroaches in his closet towards the end of the year...and they generally kept their room cleaner than ours.

I say, just be careful with leaving food out and such, and you shouldn't have a problem anywhere.

yeah i agree with caromage.. if u leave food around, ure basically asking all the bugs around to come into ure dorm..
when i was in yale for summer school last summer i left a huge bag of trash in my dorm lounge and was too lazy to throw it out... within days there were billions of flies and mosquitoes and other strange animals i have never seen before (no rats though)..
i have a strange feeling i'm gonna get weinstein coz it was second on my list and nobody else has asked for it.. PLEASE tell me that others have listed weinstein as a preference!

I never had any problem in Weinstein and neither did anyone I know. I think the worst problem was a couple of years ago in Hayden with rats. I remember people posting pics of them on lj. It was gross. I think they probably took care of it when they renovated the building that summer. Occasionally you'll hear of people seeing mice but I think the rats are gone.

I think it all depends on the collective cleanliness of the building in relation to all the others. If you stuff is not the cleanest, it is not going matter if you're in Hayden, Weinstein, or anywhere else, you're gonna get infestations. I don't think rodents have preferences, they go where the food is.

renegade, I had friends who loved Weinstein. If space is not a major concern, you'll love it too. There seemed to be a good community feeling, and it was SO easy to go get food --- a perk people (like me) envied when you were hungry but it was the dead of winter.

yeah space is not my biggest concern so i might just end up liking it.. unless i get stuck in a lowcost room which is smaller in size as well.. HOPEFULLY that wont happen..how far is weinstein from the gyms around NYU? and do NYU students get to use the gyms for free or do we have to get membership or something?

Weinstein's not that far from either gym...probably about 6 blocks to either Coles or Palladium in either direction. NYU students can use the gyms for free; you just swipe in with your card.
